Economy Argentina's continued collapse by another Redditor in June 2023

Just came across this report- How much of this is true? Looks quite worrisome. :( "I was just here, it is true they work for visa bank cards that a foreign. But f*ck my life that was the most expensive place I've ever travelled. They have somehow priced inflation like 6 months ahead, even...

    Taxes Argentine taxes

I am considering staying longer term in Argentina but I see that there is no double taxation treaty with the USA. Does anyone living here have experience with the tax situation for US citizens?

Economy The economy will be dollarized soon... it has to be.

Somebody with a Visa Card is going to stand out on the corner and make purchases with a U.S. Visa card for people who don't have one And somebody will do it for next to no premium....making very little. But rest assured...someone will do it. Net result...dollarized economy.

    De-Dollarization Affecting Expats and Nomads

I've been reading a lot about this the last couple of months It means other countries are no longer using US dollars to trade with each other, for example China and Russia and using Yuan and Ruble, etc. Even Saudi Arabia is trading with China in their respective currencies. I just read this...

Economy What it looks like when a country doesn’t trust its banks

At least this story is written by someone who lived here. Still it is aimed towards those who have not, explaining how the recent USA bank runs can be compared to life in Argentina. Better written, and better researched than the other “I was a tourist for weeks/months and you will not believe...

Real Estate Sales Why aren't there more expats in Uruguay?

Seems nicer... can't believe I spent four years in Argentina and didn't come here earlier.

Visas Overstaying tourist visa for 1-2 years

I have read many of the 'overstay pay the fine' threads but I have never seen anyone comment on overstaying for a long period of time like a year or more. If the fine is based on overstays of less than 2 years are there really no issues if you overstay under that? If that is the case, then why...

Visas Denied Digital Nomad Visa - My Experience

Hey all, I haven't seen anyone write on this (correct me if I'm wrong), so I thought I'd share my experience. As most of you probably assumed, the digital nomad visa process isn't very transparent. To this day, I can't find any information about timeframes or anyone who has successfully...

    Banking What's up with Coto

Why do some stores (Coto) insist on providing a passport number if you don't have the DNI? My wife and I have been here for 3 months and have discovered not have your DNI can certainly snag you up.

Newcomer Using a driver's license as ID in lieu of a passport

About 3 months ago I asked a cashier at Coto if I could use my state driver's license in lieu of my passport, to pay with my debit card. She said fine, no problem. Jumbo and Disco also accept my driver's license. Has anyone used their driver's license as ID at other stores or banks, etc.?

Banking I just opened a peso bank account with my passport (no DNI or precaria), here's how

I just arrived in Argentina and managed to get a local bank account open with no DNI. I'm posting the information here in case it may be of use to anyone else. I'm personally apartment shopping and need a way to pay expenses other than paying cash in person, but I'm sure the account has many...

Banking Bank accounts reported to AFIP

Hello! I posted this in the WU thread, but as it's important, I guess it warrants it's own thread. I'm sharing this information out of good will to help fellow expats, as it seems not a lot of people know about this. I am not an expert so please no one attack me for posting this. It's really...

Food & Drink How much do you tip at cafes and restaurants?

Curious on the normal rate for tipping for cafes and restaurants here. I'm from a non tipping country so I'm not used to it but I do around 10% here. Is that the norm? Some of my Argentine gf family say I tip too much but my gf says they're just stingy with tipping.

Medical Local health insurance that accepts pre-existing conditions

I am a US veteran with injuries (from an overseas deployment) that require semi-annual procedures to reduce the pain. Because I intend to retire here, I would like to purchase general health insurance. However, so far, OSDE and Swiss Medical have essentially told me to pound sand. I was told...

Newcomer eSIM option in Buenos Aires?

Happy New Year everyone. I haven't been to Buenos Aires during COVID. Heading down in a few weeks. Does anyone know if it's possible to get an eSIM in Buenos Aires for the new iPhone 14+? It's a bit annoying that the iPhone 14+ doesn't have the sim tray anymore because several countries I've...

    Travel Traveling to Buenos Aires

After the covid situation ends and Argentina allows travelers back. I plan on moving to Argentina for an extended stay. My question: what is the penalty for brining more than $10,000 US dollars into the country if I declare it. Other than being robbed, will Argentina tax me on the money, make me...
