The National Communications Agency today authorized the technology companies Starlink, Amazon and OneWeb to operate in the country and offer satellite internet service. It did so through four resolutions published in the Official Gazette, signed last Friday by the agency's auditor, Juan Martín Ozores .

“Our mission is to create a simple, clear and transparent ecosystem that provides the legal security necessary to promote investment, the development of competition and the provision of quality services in the telecommunications sectors,” stated ENACOM.

"These decisions mark our objectives: we want a technical, professional and dynamic organization, with a strong role in the demand for a simple and predictable regulatory framework that allows us to lay the foundations for the development of the knowledge society and the digital economy," they added. .

President Javier Milei had already announced the deregulation of satellite internet services in mid-December , when he presented the DNU that is in force on the national network.

Starlink is the global satellite internet services company founded in 2015 by Elon Musk, as part of his space company SpaceX. The firm has already launched nearly 4,000 satellites and provides high-speed internet to more than a million locations around the world, most of which are homes.

Confirmation of the company's entry into Argentina came just days after Milei won the elections. On the same day of the runoff, the South African businessman and tycoon expressed his joy at Milei's victory in a brief message published on his social network in response to another user.

Musk is the richest man on the planet, and has a personal fortune that according to Forbes reaches $240.5 billion.
“Prosperity is about to come to Argentina ,” considered Musk, who months ago fully entered the Argentine electoral campaign when he promoted the interview of controversial journalist Tucker Carlson with Milei.

The rapprochements between Milei and Musk

Milei's nods to Musk continued: the Bill of Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines had included permission for the circulation of self-driving vehicles, products that Tesla offers.

The text indicated that “driving by autonomous systems for self-driving vehicles, whether private, passenger or cargo, is authorized in the Argentine Republic.” This only gave a legal framework to this technology, which was not contemplated in any article of the law that regulates traffic in Argentina.

Also, Milei had pointed out in an interview: “Elon Musk called me and he is extremely interested in lithium. And the United States government and many companies in the country are also interested. But they need a legal framework that respects property rights.”

It is worth mentioning that lithium is the necessary component for the manufacture of batteries used in electric cars.

In this context, the governor of Catamarca, Raúl Jalil, had warned about the possible arrival of Musk to the Argentine mineral industry: “For me it is very good that he comes as long as the rules of the game and the economic environmental control standards are met. And social"

“In Catamarca there is a lot of legal security and, together with Salta and Jujuy, it has a very important investment boom not only from foreign capital but also from Argentine capital,” he added in statements to Radio Splendid.

On the other hand, the businessman had praised the president's speech at the World Economic Forum held in Davos: “Good explanation of what makes countries more or less prosperous,” Musk commented on X.

Although at the moment there is no confirmed date for his arrival, one possibility that is being analyzed is that Musk visits Buenos Aires in March , when a summit of international businessmen is scheduled to be organized by the co-founder of Tinder, Sean Rad. with whom Milei also had a virtual dialogue.

This is great news for rural areas. I have some friends that come down to go hunting and their biggest rant is no Internet service while they are out hunting for days. I wonder what prices will be like.
