The ruling party in the Chamber of Deputies finally formed the Social Security commission and called its first meeting this Wednesday at 2 p.m. The move by Martín Menem , head of the Lower House, seeks to deactivate the special session that the We Make Federal Coalition bloc had requested for the same day at 12.

From the block led by Miguel Ángel Pichetto, they aim to open the premises for the first time during the ordinary period to make a summons , that is, force the ruling party to establish the commissions that are not yet functioning and set a time limit to sign an opinion in based on projects that have parliamentary status.

The goal of the dialogueists is for the new formula to be approved before April 15 , while the Government shows no rush to discuss a new formula. From the Casa Rosada they only announced that they would include it in the new version of the Omnibus Law, but did not give more details about when it would reach Congress.

Specifically, the project of the Civic Coalition (which is part of HCF) provides that pensions be adjusted starting in April by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) prepared by INDEC according to February inflation, plus an increase of 20, 6% that seeks to compensate for the January price increase.

To reach a quorum, they had the presence of the 99 deputies from Unión por la Patria, the 5 from the Left Front, the 8 from Federal Innovation and an important sector of the UCR, which is going through internal turbulence due to its relationship with the Government.

Debate of the Omnibus Law

Yesterday, the block led by Rodrigo de Loredo issued a statement in which they demanded that the Government convene the Social Security Commission but implied that it would not contribute to the quorum to open the special session.

“Different blocks have legitimately come to request special sessions. The risk is that, by not bringing together two-thirds of the members, they will not be able to resolve the issues, generating false expectations and more frustration. Even worse, it could serve as a speculative scenario for Kirchnerism for a session with no greater practical effect than putting a commission into operation,” they noted.

However, as Infobae learned , a group that could exceed ten deputies, led by Facundo Manes , were willing to assume a more confrontational position against the ruling party and participate in the session.

The PRO had already made it clear that it would not join the special session, despite the fact that María Eugenia Vidal presented her own project on retirements with broad support from her bloc. “We talked about the retirement formula and the Government intends to add the issue to the project that they are going to send in the coming days. There will be a session when the Government decides to call it and with the agenda they consider, ” they summarized, in clear harmony with the ruling party.

Although Peronism was inclined to provide a quorum, it did not do so with the objective of specifically advancing the formula promoted by the Civic Coalition but rather to “ begin to build a parliamentary agenda .” It should be noted that the current formula was implemented during the government of Alberto Fernández.

In that sense, they proposed expanding the topics under discussion and also calling on the commissions to discuss the projects on the Teacher Incentive Fund ( FONID ), the Transportation Compensation Fund and other issues linked to the provincial coffers.

In addition to the decision to convene the Social Security Commission, which could end up influencing radicalism and provincial blocks such as Federal Innovation to not provide a quorum, the strong storm also collaborated to cover tomorrow's session with a blanket of doubts. The rain and wind forced many flights to be canceled and some provinces only have one service a day to Buenos Aires. As Infobae learned , several deputies from provinces in the north and south of the country were analyzing alternative ways to travel, not all of them could arrive on time. In turn, those who had doubts about their participation will have a perfect excuse to be absent.

Given that a special two-thirds majority is needed to discuss a project without an opinion, the dialogueists were clear that they would never reach the 171 votes to approve their project “on the table.” For this reason, they explained that their political objective was to “ give way ” to the Government.

In a block meeting that ended after 5 p.m., the Pichetto block decided to go down to the premises with or without a quorum . “The Government had a week to convene the commission and it did so only today, after speaking to everyone and without opening more commissions; Without this move they were not going to do it,” they noted.

“If there is a session, it is impossible for the issue of violence in Rosario not to arise ,” analyzed a deputy from Unión por la Patria. Both radicalism and Hacemos Coalión Federal presented projects at this time to declare a public security emergency in the province of Santa Fe. In fact, including the project of the radical Mario Barletta was a “wink” to make the quorum more robust.

For Peronism, the requests made by Patricia Bullrich are “pure show”, since they consider that within the framework of the Crisis Committee convened last Friday they have all the tools to confront the escalation of drug violence.
