Sending postcard to United States

Hello all,

I want to mail a postcard back to United States (as a gift with the Argentina stamps.)

I heard somewhere saying the postage is very expensive like 20 USD (maybe even more now), and you don't even get the real stamps because there are no such stamps that can cover the amount. Post office would print you the postage sticker with the right amount for the postcard, but there is no point for the collection value.

I also heard that post office service is quite bad, long line, etc.

Are the above situation true?

Any advice?

Thanks,

Steve L

Most of us here never use the post office here (Correo Argentino) as it is very undependable. I haven't used them in a decade here. Would recommend a courier service like DHL or the like. Not sure about postcard but was shocked to just look and it says online about 10k to 12k to send a postcard. Doubt they use stamps here and just use labels.

Besides the expensive prices what is just as painful is the super slow service and long lines. But brace yourself because it can take up to 2 months to get if you're sending something to the States. My kids once sent a letter to their grandma. It took 2 months to get.

It sounds like this would be a cool place to send a postcard and will have the stamps/postage.

Oh let me answer my own question: after some effort in buying stamps in different post offices, I gave up but luckily I found a stamp shop inside the cultural center (Liberty Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Palace), and they could help me send postcards (11400 peso). I sent it around mid-Nov 25. Got the postcard back around the first week of 2026. Very happy to receive it because I thought I would never see it again.

Thank you for posting an update! I was wondering. Wow that is impressive on the timing. I have mailed stuff that never got to the US.

Was it really almost $8 dollars to send a postcard @slonline? Did you just drop the postcard in the mail? If so where? Or did the Liberty Domingo Faustino Sarmiento Palace do it for you? That is actually quick.

Looks like my estimate for between 10k to 20k to send a postcard was correct. Glad to hear it made it relatively quickly. I can't say I have had luck using post office system here.

They took care of everything for me.

FWIW.

If you still file your taxes by mail, be aware that Correo Argentino is not currently be accepting shipments to the US.

I went to the post office today to attempted to mail my tax return and was told they’re not delivering to the U.S., supposedly because of the War. I'm not even sure what they meant as what is going on in Iran has nothing to do with Argentina.

Might be time to finally switch to filing taxes via Turbotax.

The most shocking thing is hearing you file your taxes by mail still. Why? It is so easy now to file online. I doubt they are not mailing because of the war. More likely the agent didn't want to work. I'd try another station.

Try taxactonline.com they are dependable and in many cases free. It is who I use.

I heard they weren't delivering mail to the USA for a while because of the tariff situation. Something about the computer systems between the USPS and Correo Argentina were not matching up and causing problems. In typical Argentina fashion they just stopped delivering mail! The entire country is like this.
