Questions About Milei’s Disability Policy

Hi everyone, I’m trying to understand what’s happening with the disability sector under Milei’s government. I have friends with children who have different pathologies, and they tell me that therapies are being cut. These therapies are essential for the children’s development, but now social security and health plans barely cover anything, and requests are often denied.

I don’t fully understand the conflict, why is this area being reduced, and why aren’t the government and the sector reaching an agreement? Does anyone know more about Milei’s position on disability support and why these cuts are happening? Any information would be really helpful.

The government argues that the cuts are part of an overall effort to reduce public spending and balance the budget. Argentina has a very high fiscal deficit, and Milei’s administration claims they need to prioritize areas and reduce what they see as inefficient spending. Critics say this approach doesn’t consider the essential nature of disability therapies, which are crucial for children’s development.

Despite the cuts, families and advocacy groups haven’t given up. There are peaceful marches and demonstrations, and even special education teachers actively participate to demand the rights of their students. Many people see this as a fight for justice and essential support that should not be compromised.

While they’re cutting back in such important areas like disability, senators are once again giving themselves disgustingly exorbitant raises… everything always feels so unequal.

Many feel that Milei lacks empathy for this sector. He hasn’t considered the long-term impact of cutting essential services, while other areas that could be reduced, like some bureaucratic programs or non-essential subsidies, remain untouched. People see this as a lack of prioritization and understanding of real needs.

That really feels like a lack of respect, not only toward the disability sector but also toward retirees whose pensions don’t even reach 300,000 ARS… It’s sad, while senators gave themselves raises of over 10 million pesos a month. A very sad contrast.

Hey everyone, for those wondering why Milei is cutting in the disability sector, there’s some context that might help. This week, a serious corruption complaint came out involving Karina Milei, the Menem family, and several officials from the National Disability Agency (ANDIS). According to lawyer Dalbón, there was a scheme of bribes and illegal payments linked to the purchase and provision of medicines, where labs and pharmacies had to pay “kickbacks” to get essential supplies to the people who needed them.

The problem is that ANDIS is the agency responsible for ensuring therapies, supports, and basic benefits for people with disabilities. If this parallel system of collection really existed, it could explain part of the chaos and the cuts we’re seeing now: resources that should go to the kids may have been mismanaged or diverted.

So basically, it’s not just a budget issue, there’s also a corruption scandal directly affecting this critical sector.

I mean, if the allegations are true, it’s no wonder the disability sector is getting hit so hard, money that should’ve gone to essential services might have been siphoned off. It’s frustrating because the people who suffer most are the ones who rely on these programs every day. Cuts might look like a simple budget decision, but now it seems like a combination of mismanagement and corruption is behind it. Totally makes you question where the government’s priorities really are.

Exactly. What makes it worse is that the most vulnerable people are always the first to pay the price for corruption and bad management. Even if the government argues it’s about saving money, it’s hard to justify when resources were already being misused. At the very least, there should be full transparency and accountability before cutting services that so many families depend on.
