After the Senate's rejection of the DNU signed by Javier Milei at the beginning of his administration, which is still in force and must now be analyzed by Deputies, the head of that Chamber, Martín Menem , issued a warning: “There is no avenue of medium, there is no place for lukewarm ; “Any decision against the DNU is playing into the hands of Kirchnerism.”

“A setback with the DNU would be playing into the hands of Kirchnerism, ratifying it would be leaving them in the past,” said the libertarian deputy. In this sense, he expressed optimism in relation to the parliamentary debate and assured: “It is possible that the number is there to approve the DNU, there are more than 130, 135 deputies who believe that the content is good and have the will to go towards forward".

Menen, in dialogue with Radio Rivadavia, considered that the DNU's setback in the Senate was something "that could have been foreseen" and completed: "We wait in the Deputies to see how politics moves, and if they are in line with what he chose." people. “We are fulfilling the mandate that the people gave us.”

With 42 votes against, 25 in favor and 4 abstentions, last Thursday the Senate rejected the validity of the Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) that Javier Milei sent , a few weeks after assuming the Presidency, with the aim of deregulating the economy. The negative votes were distributed between Unión por la Patria and the anti-Kirchnerist opposition, who - among other points - considered that the measure was unconstitutional.

The four abstentions came from the Cordoba Peronist Alejandra Vigo , wife of the former Cordoba governor, Juan Schiaretti , the renewal missionaries Carlos Arce and Sonia Rojas Decut , and the radical Maximiliano Abad . The man from Mar del Plata was the only UCR representative who abstained, while Martín Lousteau along with Pablo Blanco and Edith Terenzi voted against. The rest of the co-religionists that make up the Upper House did so in favor.

To reject the decree, meanwhile, the Frente de Todos joined forces, legislators respond to anti-K governors, and some dissident PJ. The PRO and La Libertad Avanza supported the validity.

During his speech, the head of the UCR bench, Eduardo Vischi (Corrientes), reflected that rejecting the mega DNU “is a very complicated wound from a political point of view, a bad message for the country.” In that sense, he indicated: “Several people distrust the May pact and there is talk of buying time. I hope it's not like that. We need to unite Argentines in a common project. You can't do it alone. It is time to support.”

“This DNU increases all services and increasingly lowers the salaries of Argentine workers. To repeal 82 laws, reform 300, modify substantive codes, our block is going to vote against and we immediately ask that -the President- send the projects on these titles. "Stop insulting us and have respect for the Legislative Branch," summarized the head of Kirchnerism in the Senate, José Mayans (Formosa).

For his part, the president of the ruling party, Ezequiel Atauche , questioned those who did not support the extension of the discussion and emphasized: “The reality is that, when they do not govern, they do not allow them to govern. What hurts them the most is that we are doing things right. The numbers give us and close us.” And he concluded: “More power for Argentines means less for politics. That's scary for those who are used to privilege. The President is doing what he said he was going to do.”

“Now we were seized by an attachment to republicanism. We are gendarmes of the Constitution,” lashed out the president of the PRO in the Upper House, Luis Juez , when speaking, and added: “Today a man appears with a horrible speech, but the people voted for him en masse. He did what he said he was going to do and now we are rigorous examiners of the Constitution. “I have nothing to do with this government, but the people expressed themselves.”

The judge also congratulated Villarruel, since, “despite the pressure,” he understood the Senate regulations and adhered “to the rules” related to convening the chamber in response to requests for special sessions.

Alejandra Vigo , wife of former dissident Peronist governor Juan Schiaretti , from Córdoba , pointed out four points on which she was “willing to debate,” such as the “development of regional economies; the treatment of labor and pension laws, which are important challenges; the health system and, fundamentally, the State reforms.” However, she refused to deal “with a closed book” with the 16 chapters of the mega DNU and requested abstention.
