I just found out you can buy the exact same steaks that they cook at the restaurant from this butcher. Not the cheapest but much cheaper than the restaurant.

Same out here in the sticks. Despite all the financial doom and gloom I keep hearing about. New cafes, bars, restaurants and all sorts of shops just keep on opening up. There must have a hell of a lot of spare cash knocking about. Interesting to hear that growth in coffee shops and restaurants...

Wow didn't know you could buy steak from there. But prices look very expensive. I ate here last week for the first time. The first time I could make reservations for the next day online. Things have slowed down.

RES is good and has a lot of locations in CABA.

Those prices are very very dear to cook at home. Not worth it.

I go to all of these places frequently when I'm in Buenos Aires. They are all highly rated. Food and service are great at all of these places but some are on the pricey side but I've never had a bad meal at any of these places!

Say what you will about Don Julio. The place still has people lined up day in and day out. They should charge as much as they can while the getting is good. Those owners are making a fortune!

Actually @Wally that isn't true anymore. The lines have gone way down. I went the other day with a cousin in town and was surprised we could get in for the same day. I asked the waitress and she said business was way down. She said there aren't nearly as many tourists as before. Tourism numbers have drastically come down as BA is more expensive now.

During weekends it is still busy at prime times but first time in a few years that I could just show up during prime eating hour and get in for table for 4 with no reservations and no waiting.

I go to all of these places frequently when I'm in Buenos Aires. They are all highly rated. Food and service are great at all of these places but some are on the pricey side but I've never had a bad meal at any of these places!

Most of these I just have for special occasions now which is when friends are in town and some of these are on their list to go. Expensive now.

I went to Gran Dabbang, El Preferido de Palermo (which I thought had the best steak), Aramburu I went for my birthday and Michiguene was unique. All good but I'm told the prices are much more than when I went. Not sure I can afford some of them now.

I just went to Don Julio today. Actually you can see the peso price went down on several steak dishes. I got the Asado de Tira and it was 96,800 vs. 99,170 December 2023. I have been here over 100 times over 23 years. I never minded paying more here but I just think the quality has gone downhill. Here is my review.

Thanks for this update. It looks like the steak prices have been stable for the past year or so. Was pricey then and still is but sad to hear the quality has gone down. I went once and just didn't understand all the fuss. It was good. I liked El Preferido better. What is this about the tomatoes?

The tomato thing got me. That, and 7k pesos for water, when I buy my water from the same supplier they use and pay the same for a 20L bidón.

Even with the La Nación discount, I think I'm going to go elsewhere for my steaks.

I have heard similar comments from local friends that go there for special occasions. They repeated quality issues. I stopped going there last year. Even with discounts if the quality is not as good as before. A pass for me.

I went there while I was in BA and it was ok. I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. I thought top steakhouses in Dallas were much better without the fuss. $12,000 tomato???? 🤣🤣🤣

I figured as much and didn't even consider going. Most US cities have at least a half dozen really good steak houses so it's crazy to pay US prices in Argentina. The ambience at Don Julio wasn't great either, we walked by every day and it always looked half empty (it was winter time, but the other places we visited were packed).

Yes it has just gotten nuts. I also laughed at the small bottles of water for 7,000 pesos. The tomato thing was crazy. Never saw that before. They literally were delivering like 4 tomatoes and had people oohing and ahhing. Was comical!

Yes you were smart to skip it. I only go about once a year but I'm done with it now. The chorizo we had was just terrible. Steak was just ok. They really slowed down from before. We just booked 2 days earlier. Go to Madre Rojas @CraigM your next visit. Is great!
