Argentina more Corrupt with Milei - In Milei's second year, Argentina worsened its rating in the world ranking that measures corruption

I for one think that Milei would do the same thing if given enough years. Already involved with several gifts so what makes you all think he is any better than Cristina? His first grift was very quickly after getting voted in. I'm betting against a turn around with Milei. Sure some of his ideas are good but they won't be enough.

In my opinion, Argentina’s problems are cultural and societal. For 100 years the country has shown a pattern of saying one thing and doing another, maintaining a self-image that doesn’t match economic reality, and behaving much like its regional neighbors. That long-term pattern is what I’m betting against.

I believe the root issues lie in the broader society, and no single administration or short-term project can fix that. Argentina’s reputation globally is that of a deadbeat serial defaulter, a country that repeatedly goes back on its word. Even someone like Milei can’t change that overnight and he already is proven to be a criminal. Rebuilding credibility will take decades.

To me, that’s just a practical, long-term view, even if others who are living here are optimistic about the situation see it differently. I think once Trump is out of office Milei and Argentina are toast.
Agree! I haven't been here long and I am no expert but just going through my apartment purchase I can tell you things are far from being a working society here. I posted about my train wreck buying my apartment.

Do you really think locals will get compliant with taxes? Even if the rate comes down they are accustomed to dodging taxes. That isn't going to change if the taxes come down a little. At the closing everyone told me that they preferred not to give an official invoice. I asked them what that means. I didn't know. They said that I had to pay a 21% tax on top of their commission! This is not for any product but on top of their legal and realtor fee. I was shocked. They wanted me to pay almost $3,000 USD in taxes on top of the broker fee but they suggested if I didn't want to pay that better so they wouldn't have to pay taxes on their commission. It was the same with the lawyer that assisted me to close.

My experiences furnishing my place are also as painful as the purchase. All last month I couldn't get anyone to even respond back. No one here seems motivated to make money. I agree with you @MikeRoss a turn around here is not in the cards any time soon. You are probably correct about Trump.

@CraigM do you have doubts if Milei and his sister are given enough time in office they won't hit these kind of numbers???
You may be right Avocado but it's very hard to know. We typically don't learn the true scale of corruption until long after an administration is gone. Still... $10 billion is a lot to steal out of an economy the size of Argentina's, and Milei will have the IMF breathing down his neck.

I wonder what they are at now. Some of this stuff coming out is very bad. My novia told me here they all steal. She said every contract they give out they take a piece of commission. Some are saying his sister doesn't care how it looks. She just wants to vacuum in as quickly as possible.

Seems about right. it is alarming to me that Milei's got out of the gate so quickly with the corruption. It has to be embarrassing that he is actually moving Argentina backwards on the corruption index.

Probably hundreds of things like this going on. And Milei is getting a cut of the illegal proceeds.

It takes years to unravel corruption. But in Argentina even when the evidence is there when the President controls all the judges, it is tough until years later when different judges are in power. Libragate keeps putting out new info.

Another of Milei's close friends and someone he say will win Nobel Prize with him kicked out of office. The scandal don't stop. He is worse than Cristina.

All his friends are in on the take.

The worst thing is that his supporters go from "we don't' believe it, to prove it" and then once it's proved they will make another excuse and another and then say "yes but it's nothing like Cristina". 🤡

I saw the same thing after Libragate. First they said "Milei's account was hacked it's not him!" Then "ok it was him but he was just trying to help out the small businesses in Argentina". Once it was proven that he was in on the scam, it's 🦗. Or of course the "it is nothing compared to Cristina". Some also go to extremes to make some excuse but it never goes far. It has been like this so far since the day he got elected in.

I thought maybe this was fake news but indeed Argentina is getting worse with corruption. Proof positive nothing has changed when it comes to corruption. Can't say anything about the Kirchner's when Milei's are doing the same thing.

Let's see how many properties Milei and his sister end up going out of office with. Look at how many Cristina had by the end of it all. 141 properties!
