Who’s still around here in BA despite the tough economic changes?

How many expats do you think have left Argentina in the past year? With the cost of living here now matching (or even exceeding) the US in many cases, what percentage of people do you imagine have decided to pack up and leave?

Do you feel there’s been a slowdown in forum activity lately? I figure this place is a good way to gauge how things are going.

Personally, I moved here a few years ago and instantly fell in love with the country. A big factor back then was the incredible buying power. Now, if I hadn’t gotten married here, made great friends, and built a life that goes way beyond money, I’m honestly not sure I’d still be around.

What about you?

I think a lot of people have left. The cost of living has gone up so much that the financial incentive isn’t there anymore. Back in 2021-2022 you could live comfortably on a modest income from abroad, but now the gap has closed. If you don’t have local ties or a strong reason to stay, it’s tough.

Yeah, things are harder now, but I also feel like people exaggerate a bit. If you’re willing to adjust your lifestyle, Argentina can still be a great place to live. The quality of life here is more than just money.

I think the ones still here are the ones who adapted. You can’t rely only on buying power anymore; you need to integrate, earn locally if possible, or really enjoy the lifestyle. Otherwise, the constant economic changes will burn you out.

Yeah, things are tough here, but honestly, it’s not like the U.S. is doing great either. People there are also struggling with the economy, crazy rents, and a hectic lifestyle. When you put everything on the scale, culture, environment, the way of living, I’d still rather stay here. Life feels fuller and happier for me in Argentina than going back to the U.S. grind.

Those who remain here are the ones who’ve adjusted well. You can’t depend solely on economic benefits anymore; it’s essential to connect with the community, maybe find local work, or truly appreciate the way of life. Otherwise, the ongoing economic instability will wear you down. If your only reason for staying is that it used to be cheaper, then it might be time to consider relocating. Staying just for past financial advantages no longer makes sense.

It’s all about habits. Don’t use your phone while walking, don’t carry expensive jewelry, and definitely don’t walk around with a camera hanging from your neck, and you’ll probably be fine. I feel that the government numbers might be a bit optimistic, but overall, I don’t feel unsafe.
