What’s your take on overstaying in Argentina these days?

It seems like Migraciones is getting stricter, especially with people who repeatedly overstay and basically live here on tourist visas instead of getting residency. But at the same time, I keep hearing that a one-time overstay (paying the fine and leaving) isn’t usually a big issue.

Do you think things have actually changed recently, or is it mostly the same as before?

Curious to hear real experiences, especially when it comes to leaving and then coming back later.

I have friends who do it regularly and they’ve started getting more questions at immigration… I think as long as you don’t abuse it, you’re fine.
There are several posts about this on the forum:

Go home or get legal. Stop breaking the laws.

The actual immigration laws are now being applied - I cant see why people are upset.

If a foreigner tries something similar in the USA , deportation is totally normal.
Exactly. This is just the law like in almost any other country in the world. People shouldn't be surprised. Many of us did it the right way. I think it is still generous. The only thing I hear is that they aren't processing anything anymore.

I don't believe any of it to be honest 😜 lol. Who are these millions of expats with "my cousin, my best friend, my dog, my uncle, my aunties husband" overstaying and being rejected? I don't believe it

Anyway just adding a different point of view to this very one way thread

Have you overstayed and left recently @BarryBloomWwf? When is the last time you left Argentina? Would you feel comfortable doing it? How many times have you overstayed now?

I haven't read tons of cases. On this forum I have only heard of about 3 or 4 people this happened which actually isn't many at all. I would be curious how many are not traveling because of this. How comfortable is anyone that has overstayed for years or paid many overstay fees?

I don't know of anyone personally that hasn't been let in but I don't doubt it. Are you watching the news @BarryBloomWwf ? This government has changed completely on immigration. Not sure anyone that has stayed here illegally for years would feel too comfortable about leaving and coming back now.

my wife overstayed in the usa by 1 day cumlative. not consecutive. immigration eventually let her through after putting her in the back room and she missed her flight. never overstayed before

Oh wow. She doesn't have a US passport? Did that affect her re-entry at all? It's all computerized now. I think in Argentina they were very lax before also because their system wasn't too good but I heard it was all updated now.
