Western Union

What fees are you paying now to send Western Union. It seems like the fees keep going up each time I send. And I don't have any promo codes anymore. What are you paying? Mine are about 4% now just to get pesos and then if I need USD I have to buy dollars usually at a mediocre rate.
Fees without a promo code are about 4% to 5% on average for me. I still think it is worth it to pay that fee because it is quick and easy. The only time I don't use it and go with cuevas is when I need actual US dollars because it ends up being much less to just use a cueva. Most of my WU payments are just small payments that I need to pick up small amounts of cash. But a cueva makes sense when it is at least $1,000. I just used @BuySellBA and they helped me with a $2,000 wire and I even used Zelle which was very quick. The rate was much better than WU and I picked up the same day so that was easier than WU. Only downside is there were only 3 options to pick up with different offices around CABA.

A good trick is to use Capital One Shopping. They have a Chrome extension that you can use and it monitors if there is a discount. I have saved 4 times great % with the codes. It seems like you have to erase your cache history for them to reload so make sure you do that. The last transfer it saved me about $70 on a larger $2300 wire.

Thank you for the tip about the Chrome extension. I hate pop ups but I guess it is worth it to save some money. Western Union is very easy and convenient for smaller amounts as you mentioned. But fees have been creeping up! I sent a $150 payment to my friend here that lives in Bariloche that had an emergency and the fee was $12.99!

The Zelle option would be amazing.

Lately WU is asking me what the reason why I am sending the money. That never happened before.

Thanks. I will try that. Never get anymore discount codes. Instead on the screen when I send it says 63% off with the price scratched out. Prices are on the rise. I sent $150 this morning to myself. Rate was 1,509.25 to $1 USD. It said the normal rate was going to be $23.99! It discounted it automatically to $8.99 which is 6% of the total.

I agree with others it might be ok spending this on smaller amounts but any larger amounts it makes sense to use a cueva. Can't imagine anyone paying $23.99 to send $150 payment to WU.

I have sadly had to stop using WU. Feel fortunate @ElQueso. I am not getting any discounts at all when sending. It quoted me $23.99 to send $200. I was in a pinch but a friend send me some funds to use. It seems like people using WU are at their mercy now. Pago Facil used to be an alternative but I think I read WU bought them too. That's probably why rates are going up.

Try clearing your cache history in your phone or laptop and you usually will see the discounted price. I just sent today and paid $9 to send $200. It was $12 to send $300. The rate is great! Blue rate today was 1475 and I got 1508.75 to $1 USD via WU today.
