Politics Thread: President Javier Milei - From Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) to Today

Watched this and it was a good watch. You just know that Milei is probably done. Even with all this help from the US everyone is dumping pesos. It is probably impossible to turn Argentina around. Even if Milei does ok in the mid term elections, it is impossible for him to have much power. Country is too screwed up.

I watched this a few days ago. Excellent and he is right. Also does not help when the President and his sister keep getting busted robbing people.

Details are emerging of Milei's sweeping labor reforms. It would be fabulous for business owners. I don't think workers know what is coming.

- Working days extended
- Pay based on productivity
- Reduction in holidays
- Reduction in severance pay
- Easier to fire workers

Would make Argentina much more productive.

Argentina can't drastically improve without this change to employment law. Will be very impressed if they can push this through. VLLC.

Wow I did not realize that only 6.5 million people out of 46 million have official white registered jobs in the private sector. That is shocking!

Until they get all of these people in the formal economy agree with you guys not much can be fixed.

That's what people forget. Milei and his team have a more negative vs. positive opinion. That kind of matches what I hear talking to people. Still I don't know how that will translate in votes in the next election. I guess anything can happen.

It's just going to depend on the economy and how it is in 2 years. If inflation stays down that will help but people have short memories. Next hurdle will just be salaries. @Jakoval corrected pointed out that prices are at first level rates and salaries are at third world levels. That never works out well over the long term.

Last time I checked Trump's numbers almost mirror exactly how Milei's approval/disapproval ratings are going. Take from that what you might. Probably the die hard Trump fans think he is doing great and the people that hate him think he is doing worse than ever. Probably the same here with Milei.

very few people read politics, economics for sport. it takes an effert most working people don’t have
In Argentina the economy is more of a hot topic. In the US probably more so now. My brother is always complaining about cost of living. Politics is a subject I try to avoid both in Argentina and when I go back home.

so they get there info from the radio on their way to work, logon to X or instagram. impossible to truly understand whats going on. its their bank accounts that speak to them

I think most of this generation is totally screwed. Cost of living has spiraled out of control. Cost of housing is nuts. It's no wonder no one wants to have any kids.

wally, your right to avoid it. in the usa its a nonstarter. say trump and you have a yelling fight
Half my family almost doesn't speak anymore as they are so divided on politics. Many of my friends on Facebook argue all the time and lost friendships over Trump. Best to just avoid talking about it.

Many have soured on him. There were raging fans of his on X for a while but many of them left. Even at Davis as he got ready to speak many left the room.

He has been bribing many poor. Milei has actually expanded social welfare programs. Before it was 2.5 million people and now it is 6 million beneficiaries and payments went from 20,600 to 100,500 pesos contradicting his "teach to fish" philosophy he is spewing. So that may have something to do with some patience that people have, especially the poor.

We shall see how long this patience lasts.

If Milei can get this labor reform bill through productivity rates should soar in Argentina. Anyone that I know that owns a business in Argentina tell me how chaotic the system is with employees. There will probably be a purge of firing bad employees but will give Argentina a fresh start.
