They are eating donkeys now in Argentina and marketing it as beef is getting expensive

Yes the jokes are terribly funny. But is it true now they are eating the dogs and cats? Saw this on the news. Incoming dog and cat memes!

Just asked Grok and it confirmed people are eating cats out of desperation:

Yes, there are credible local reports and official complaints from Córdoba, Argentina, specifically in the Güemes neighborhood (Barrio Güemes), about homeless people (personas en situación de calle) hunting, skinning, and eating domestic cats out of desperation. This isn’t a city-wide or nationwide thing — it’s tied to one area and extreme poverty, hunger, drug issues, and rising homelessness. Here’s what actually happened, based on multiple Argentine news outlets:
  • In mid-October 2025, the neighborhood association (Centro Vecinal de Güemes) filed complaints with city authorities. They reported around 10 domestic cats missing in recent weeks.
  • Residents (including a 12-year-old boy) said they saw people skinning cats and cooking them over fires (described as “like cabrito” — grilled goat). Cat skins were reportedly found in nearby plazas, such as Plaza de los Arquitectos or areas around Julio Roca and Cañada.

Reminds me of Trump's "They are eating the cats and dogs". Doubt they would ever eat dogs in Argentina. They are very loved here. Cats I am not sure of.
