Starlink Launches the Mini X Portable Satellite Internet Kit in Argentina

The satellite internet company Starlink, owned by entrepreneur Elon Musk, has chosen Argentina as the launch market for its new portable connectivity device, the Mini X kit. The compact satellite internet system aims to expand access to reliable internet in areas where traditional networks such as fiber optics or cable infrastructure are unavailable.

With differentiated monthly plans and a simplified setup, the Mini X represents a new step in the company’s strategy to bring portable satellite connectivity to rural, remote, and mobile users.

A Compact Satellite Internet System

The Starlink Mini X is designed to provide broadband internet through a portable satellite antenna that connects directly to the company’s constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites. Once connected, the system distributes internet access to nearby devices via Wi-Fi.

One of the main upgrades compared to previous portable kits is the inclusion of an integrated wireless router inside the same device. This removes the need for additional networking hardware and simplifies installation, reducing both the number of components and cables required.

Users can configure the device using the official Starlink mobile application, which guides them through the antenna alignment process and allows them to monitor signal quality and possible obstructions. Because the system does not require technicians or permanent infrastructure, it can be deployed in homes, vehicles, or temporary locations.

Price and Availability in Argentina

The Mini X was initially released exclusively through the Argentine electronics retailer Cetrogar, both online and in physical stores across the country.

The device is currently priced at 299,999 Argentine pesos. Several retailers are offering financing options:

  • Cetrogar: three interest-free installments of 99,999 pesos
  • La Anónima supermarket chain: up to six interest-free installments, plus discounts for cash payments
  • On City: three interest-free installments
  • Mercado Libre (official Starlink store): about 299,000 pesos, with up to nine installments and free shipping
These options make the Mini X one of the more accessible portable satellite internet kits currently available in the Argentine market.

Monthly Starlink Service Plans

The hardware purchase does not include the internet service itself. Users must subscribe to a monthly plan, with pricing depending on how the system will be used.

Current plans available in Argentina include:

  • Residential Lite Plan: approximately 38,000 pesos per month
  • Roaming / Itinerant Plan: starting from 87,500 pesos per month
The itinerant plan is designed for users who need connectivity while traveling or operating in different locations.

Technical Specifications

The Mini X kit measures 29.8 × 3.8 × 25.9 centimeters and weighs 1.53 kilograms, making it easy to transport. The package includes:

  • Compact satellite antenna
  • Integrated Wi-Fi router
  • Support stand and flat mounting bracket
  • Pipe adapter
  • Power supply
  • 15-meter cable
The integrated router supports dual-band Wi-Fi 5 technology with a 3×3 MU-MIMO system and includes a LAN Ethernet port with a locking mechanism. Wireless coverage can reach up to 112 square meters, suitable for small homes, vehicles, or temporary installations.

Energy consumption ranges between 25 and 40 watts, significantly lower than traditional residential satellite systems. This allows the device to operate using external batteries or alternative energy sources.

Under optimal conditions, the system can deliver:

  • Download speeds: 30–100 Mbps
  • Upload speeds: 5–25 Mbps
  • Latency: 23–60 milliseconds
These speeds are sufficient for video calls, HD streaming, intensive browsing, and light online gaming.

How the Mini X Compares to Other Starlink Kits

The Mini X sits between fully portable devices and larger residential Starlink systems.

Compared with the original Starlink Mini, the Mini X’s most notable improvement is the dedicated integrated router, which enhances wireless stability and separates Wi-Fi management from the antenna system. While both devices share similar power consumption and coverage range, the Mini X offers improved connectivity for mobile setups.

When compared with the standard residential Starlink kit, the Mini X prioritizes portability and efficiency. The residential system uses a larger antenna, offers wider Wi-Fi coverage, more Ethernet ports, and can reach speeds of up to 200 Mbps, but it requires more power and a higher initial investment.

Designed for Mobility and Remote Connectivity

The Starlink Mini X is aimed at users who need reliable internet in rural areas, during travel, or in temporary locations. For people living far from traditional broadband infrastructure—or those who frequently move between locations—the device provides a flexible alternative to fixed internet connections.

With its portable design, integrated router, and relatively low power consumption, the Mini X could further expand the reach of satellite broadband across remote regions of Argentina and beyond.

Anyone from the forum using Starlink?
You can use the search filter on the forum which works really well. @Oatmeal said he is using Starlink.

Everything sounds okay except the "high demand surcharge in your area". I would love to give it a try, but they are asking for $799K one time surcharge 🙁
A few friends that live in rural areas have it and rave about it.
