Ski Resort Guide 2025

2025 Ski Guide for Argentina with Prices and basic information.

Quick Notes:
Most popular are Catedral in Bariloche, Chapelco in San Martin de los Andes and Bayo in Villa La Angostura.

More economic/mom and pop. Perito Moreno in El Bolson and La Hoya in Esquel. Great options if you are bringing kids, especially during peak season.

The Best ski shop in Buenos Aires is EuroCamping/Eco Rental with a location near Teatro Colon and they have a location in Martinez which the owner is at. Great Service with new and used gear/repairs. You can rent winter clothes there and they have partners in many of the ski towns for gear. They also rent Beacon, Shovel, and Probes for backcountry skiers. https://www.eurocampingonline.com.ar/rental/

Resorts Listed from North to South Geographically - with links to website and lift ticket prices listed.

Las Leñas - 4 hour south of mendoza - Posh skiing, if the snow is good, backcountry the backcountry there is world class. I'd advise to go if you are a good skier/rider, leave the kids at home. Could be the best ski trip of your life.

Cerro Cavihue - 4 hours north of San Martin de Los Andes/ 4 hours from Neuquen - Out of the way but beautiful with other family activities. Great option for those drilling out in Vaca Muerte.

Cerro Chapelco - San Martin de Los Andes - It's a good resort, Ski School is generally the most expensive - In the process of new ownership. Easy access from San Martin. San Martin is a better town than Bariloche.

Screenshot 2025-05-15 at 12.57.45 PM.png
Cero Bayo - Villa La Angostura - Equidistant between San Martin and Bariloche - Great view of Nahuel Huapi. Some very good riding at the top gondola lift. Modern and solid.

Cerro Catedral - Bariloche - Biggest Resort in South America - It's a good place, good ski school. Recommend staying in the Kilometers south of DT, to avoid traffic getting to the resort.

Day Ticket 115.000/person - not official yet but the manager said the plan is to keep it the same as 2024, remains to be seen.

Cerro Perrito Moreno - El Bolson - Good Prices and great for bringing kids. Fly into Esquel or Bariloche.

Screenshot 2025-05-15 at 1.09.38 PM.png
Screenshot 2025-05-15 at 1.10.07 PM.png

La Hoya - Esquel - Close to Airport - Good affordable family option - Less busy than the others, like Perito Moreno.

Screenshot 2025-05-15 at 1.17.33 PM.png
Cerro Castor - Ushuaia - Usually consistent snow. Can be quite cloudy there like the PNW in the USA, solid riding though.

Screenshot 2025-05-15 at 1.22.29 PM.png

A traslado to and from the resort to your lodging is generally $50 a day for a group of 2. So Renting a car is not a bad idea. Chains are required on tires most of the time, so bring a few pesos and pay someone to do it for you real quick if you do not know how.

Here are 2 Facebook groups with great information
Screenshot 2025-05-15 at 2.12.00 PM.pngbuy and sell backcountry gear there, Victor who runs the group is an OG and sells gear at great prices and is trustworthy, with a wealth of information for the adventurous advanced people.

Cerro Catedral Bariloche 2025 Update As of May 28th/Price fight

2025 Price is freeze at 115.000 is still not confirmed. The resort runs on leases owned by Gruppo Trappa, owners of Via Cargo/Via Bariloche, the biggest transport company in Argentina. They are also the owners of Cerro La Hoya en Esquel. Gruppo Trappa is in the running to take over lease of Cerro Chapelco in San Martin.

The intendente of the municipal Group wants the price freeze at 115.000, which is already the highest in the region. Gruppo Trappa wants to put it at 199.000 Pesos. The city says the price increase could have a negative effect on local jobs, businesses, and city center short term rentals while short term rentals close located on the hill will not be affected.

Drama for the over valued peso and tourism just as in BA. $180 is a lot of money for a ski resort that does not always open up their ski lifts.

June 3rd Update - Gruppo Trappa announced that Cerro Catedral in Bariloche is indeed going to maintain the lift tickets at 115.000 for the year. Gruppo Trappa/Don Otto officially bought the lease at Cerro Chapelco in San Martin de Los Andes in a 30 Million Dollar deal.

Here is the article-

There are 3 major in airports in Andean Patagonia - Esquel, Bariloche, and San Martin de Los Andes. Gruppo Trappo is the owner of the lease in all ski resorts in these cities. But in a press release assured, " Transportes Don Otto SA y la Provincia de Neuquén defendió que «no configura un monopolio". Which seems about right as skiing es un deporte "Cheto."

Lift tickets and equipment are about Chile 50% less expensive to than Argentina this year. Border crossing are up into Chile are nearly double in the Andes.

June 11th Catedral Update - CASH IS KING

Day passes at 3 locations, Unicenter in BA being one of them. CASH Only, pesos and dollars.
There is still a fight over the lift ticket price while they work out the other details, credit card discount.
In the Meantime, the choice is to not pay taxes. Argentina be Argentina.

Wow that very expensive!!!! I went few years ago. I stopped going as my family can't afford that. That sound more than USA? How are USA prices?
Yes it is an expensive sport, un poco cheto. I'm glad you get to share a trip with your family.
Links are provided to compare prices. In El Bolson at Perito Moreno, you will spend half as much as Bariloche on a ski trip, considering lodging, rental car etc. So in the future, keep that in mind.
Buying Equipment, like anything imported is at least 2x more expensive than Argentina. USA ski trip will be much more expensive.
Lodging is more 3 times more expensive in the USA. Lift tickets are more expensive, depends on where one goes. Aspen, Colorado a ticket is $264. Lift tickets in Europe are less expensive than Argentina. Under $100 in Switzerland.

July 11th Update - Cerro Chapelco

Lift tickets start at 120.000 Pesos + (5.000 for the Pass card) is for an adult daily pass. With slight discounts for locals who can prove residency in Rio Negro. Prices are slightly higher than sister resort Cerro Catedral in Bariloche, also owned by Grupo Trappa/Don Otto. Chapelco is now the highest priced lift ticket in Patagonia.

I want to go skiing in Bariloche so bad. I'm an avid skier and go to Utah and Colorado frequently. It's so expensive now it's not comfortable to eat or drink up there. If you have a few kids and go skiing with the family and eating and drinking at any ski resort you can go broke quickly!

I advise to avoid Argentina/Brazilian School Winter Break. Being caught behind a bunch of Brazilians in a lift line in rented ski jackets on a powder day is a special sort of hell lol. Also have rentals and lift tickets in hand before heading to the hill. For families, I tend to recommend smaller/ Mom and Pop resorts, no matter the country, for pricing(usually 50% cheaper) and easy access to your vehicle / day locker. Bring your own lock, buy some hot chocolate, pack some sandwiches/granola bars and a six pack and some great vibes. Often times I see parents down 2 Grand, it's noon, and they are not even on the hill. I hope you make it down sometime to ski, you deserve it.

Agreed Johnny, we will have to hit the slopes there together. The Marte lift at Las Lenas is also on my bucket list, have heard about it since I was a kid.

Skiing in the US has gotten absurd. Most big resorts charge $300 for a day pass now and food prices are ridiculous.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together! I want to try skiing in Argentina some time. I heard it is great.

Wow! Is it really that expensive? Does that $300 include equipment rental too? Or just the pass? My friend said they went to Vail last year and they felt terrible as they didn't want to let their kids eat too much. Their kids are eating every 2 hours and they told me they just about went broke up there between food and drinks.

Just the pass. You can get multi-day passes online with pretty significant discounts, which most people do. By far the best deal is a season's pass but you have to ski at least 5 or 6 days a year to make it worthwhile, and the vast majority of visitors only ski 3-5 days a year on holiday (the resorts know this of course and price lift tickets accordingly).

Wow! I guess a season pass would make sense if you ski a lot but then again not sure I would want to take kids a few times a year for expensive food and drinks. I heard one or two players were buying up all the resorts so they can price however they want as they own everything. Is that true?

It is sickening to the point I stopped going to ski resorts a few years ago. Here in Southern California we have "ski week" for our kids in February. We used to go every single year. I have 3 kids. I'd get daily lessons from private instructors for my 2 oldest (my youngest has never skied). It was obscene how much it all cost. Well a few years ago, I paid an unGodly amount of insane money for a weeks worth of luxury home rental, lift tickets, private instructors that you had to book ahead of time. Then we get there and it's super cold and none of my kids wanted to ski. My wife hates the cold. I am a decent skier but I hate the cold too now and my feet always hurt so I don't ski.

We wasted so much money. But then the next year I booked it again. Everyone got the flu and we were again out all that money. Needless to say we go to Hawaii now for "ski week". Or somewhere else warm. I can't justify spending that much money. My kids eat like horses and when we are up at the top of the mountain the last time we went. I kid you not, I think I spent like $500 USD for lunch and drinks in an afternoon skiing. I doubt I'll go skiing anytime soon. Ha.

Oh man that is rough Mike! Blowing that kind of money would bring the average man to tears, me included.

Drama for the over valued peso and tourism just as in BA. $180 is a lot of money for a ski resort that does not always open up their ski lifts.
Thanks for posting this @Good Stuff! Very helpful. Too rich for my blood now.

Darn. If multi-millionaires are complaining about the cost then mortals like me don't stand a chance!

I think after something like this two years in a row I'd never go skiing again!!
