Most of the projects that began to be debated today in the Social Security Commission contemplated extra sums to compensate for the loss of purchasing power in the month of January, when the price increase was 20.6 percent. The Government's proposal would range between 12% and 14 percent

They had to recognize the urgency and provide a response .” Some sectors of the dialogue opposition took as positive the news that the Government will modify the retirement formula by decree . However, the compensation proposed by the ruling party for the connection between the two systems remains insufficient.
This afternoon the Social Security Commission
met in the Chamber of Deputies to begin debating the 16 projects on retirement mobility. During the meeting there was strong criticism of José Luis Espert for refusing to hold a plenary meeting with the Budget commission, of which he is the head.

For the opposition, the ruling party sought to delay the work in the commissions to discuss the issue within the framework of the new Omnibus Law. But this alternative was unacceptable to the dialogue blocs given that the current formula - which does not consider inflation in the calculation - liquefies the purchasing power of pensions month by month.

Almost all the projects of the majority blocks agree that pensions must be updated based on the INDEC Price Index . However, there are some differences regarding the mechanism that should be used to compensate for the “splicing” with the new formula. In that sense, the Civic Coalition project proposes an extra payment of 20.6% to recover part of the purchasing power lost due to inflation in December and January.

During the first debate of the Omnibus Law, at the request of the Minister of Economy Luis “Toto” Caputo , the ruling party had contemplated a compensation of 10% corresponding to January, but since that month inflation exceeded 20%, almost the entire opposition group considered which was insufficient.

This afternoon the Government let it be known that it would modify the mobility formula through a DNU , after considering the negotiation opportunities with the opposition exhausted.

The decree, which will probably be published tomorrow in the Official Gazette, will determine a monthly increase based on the Consumer Price Index plus an extra percentage, which would be between 12 and 14 percent . They are two points above Caputo's initial proposal, which is, however, below the 20 percent demanded by the opposition.

At the Casa Rosada they rushed the decision so that the splicing date was April 1. If they delayed the decision any longer, they warned, the update would be delayed until June, further deteriorating the pensioners' assets.

“During the last few weeks we have made a great effort to make visible the situation that retirees are going through and prioritize the need for a new mobility formula on the political agenda. It was worth it, with the DNU we are facing progress . The Government could not continue evading reality or delay the solution in the face of the urgency of the issue, otherwise the retirees were going to continue losing,” he told Maximiliano Ferraro , of the Civic Coalition.

For their part, the radical bench also highlighted as “positive” that the Government takes inflation as a parameter for the update. “12 is more than 0, but January inflation was 20%,” they explained.

Along these lines, the dialogue blocs announced that they will continue working to reach a consensus project in the Social Security commission to eventually replace the DNU with an ordinary law.

They also warned that they consider the splicing to be insufficient. “ We will continue working to compensate for what is missing ,” they summarized.
