Companies will be able to collect a maximum increase of 114.6% in relation to what was paid in December 2023. This percentage is explained by the inflation accumulated between November and March. The scheme will be in effect until September

The Government decided that private medicine companies affected by the price reduction measure will be able to apply an increase in May that does not exceed 114.6% compared to the amount they charged their clients last December , as announced this Thursday by the Commerce secretary.

“Within the framework of the advance protection measure of the Ministry of Commerce on medical-care health plans, it is clarified that the reference quota value for the application of the maximum increases will be that corresponding to the December 2023 quota. , regardless of your payment or billing date ,” mentioned a statement from Commerce.

“In this sense, these values may not exceed the quota of the medical care health plan for the month of December 2023 multiplied by (1+ the percentage variation between the Consumer Price Index general level with national coverage prepared by the Indec in force at moment of the corresponding billing, and the same Index corresponding to December 2023)”, they indicated.

How much will private health companies charge in April and May

“In this way, to calculate the maximum value of the current quota (depending on the case, it could be April or May), an adjustment must be applied, a maximum of 93.3% for the April quota (that is, inflation accumulated between the months of November to February). While for the May quota a maximum adjustment of 114.6% must be applied (that is, the inflation accumulated in the months of November to March),” said Commerce. That increase must be applied to the amount paid in December.

“It is clarified that the reference fee value for the application of the maximum increases will be that corresponding to the December 2023 fee, regardless of its payment or billing date,” Commerce reported.

“For example, if the fee is for April, the value of the December fee must be multiplied by 1.933 (if it was invoiced after April 17). If the fee is for May, the value of the December fee must be multiplied by 2.146. In the case of invoices prior to April 17, the discount will be applied to the next invoice,” they mentioned. “Meanwhile, it is important to highlight that this adjustment mechanism with a limit on the registered inflation will be in force for the next 5 months, that is, until September,” they concluded.

Seven private medicine companies will have to adjust their increases to clients according to a formula (Illustrative Image Infobae)

The Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, had anticipated that a channel of complaints will be opened and those medical companies that do not reverse the excessive increases that the Executive Branch itself allowed with the liberalization of prices will be fined.

The official expressed himself through his “The private helth companies did not comply, the invoices arrived and it is not what was agreed upon ,” they asked the minister.

To calculate the maximum value of the current quota, an adjustment must be applied, a maximum of 93.3% for the April quota (the inflation accumulated between November and February); For May, a maximum adjustment of 114.6% should be applied

In this framework, Caputo announced that on Thursday “we are going to clarify the formula” for increases, “so there are no doubts.” “We are going to open a channel for complaints for invoices that do not comply with what is regulated and agreed upon ,” he reported and added: “In addition, a fine (a very large percentage of the annual billing) will be applied in case of non-compliance . ”

“The scope of the measure is for all associates of the companies covered by the advance protection measure issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce based on the opinion of the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (CNDC). This measure does not discriminate between individual, corporate and derivative users. The companies reached by the measure are: OSDE, Swiss Medical, Galeno, Omint, Medifé, German Hospital, British Hospital ,” he listed.

“If non-compliance is proven by prepaid medicine companies, a daily fine equivalent to 0.1% of the economic group's turnover will be applied, in accordance with the provisions of Law 27,442 (Competition Defense Law)” concluded the Ministry of Economy.
