Office of Official Response: The new government account to debunk 'lies' about Milei. He seems like the Argentinean Trump.

I saw that today in France. I saw the news about the INDEC and hiding from the real inflation. They have been lying about the inflation numbers since the first Kirchner. My hunch that Milei was no different than the other caste has proven to be correct. I honestly don't think he will get re-elected in 2 years.

He seems to be getting more desperate now.

There is always a news cycle "in favor" and "against" the current govt. I remember hearing "against" news so for so many months prior to the mid-terms and see how the mid-terms came out to be. So, probably as long as the country is on the right track and better than previous 40 years, he will get re-elected (unless he goofs up one big thing).

Well he has goofed up a few big things already. Cristina goofed up many things and hundreds of millions of dollars and it took a long time for her downfall. Milei's own sister got caught stealing from social program. Trump goofed up many things. Unfortunately we live in a day and age where people blindly follow their leaders.

Do you really think that Milei and his sister can keep their hands out of stealing $$? His sister got caught. He got caught. It continues. He will goof up again.

His chances of reelection depend on the ability of the oposition to agree on a decent candidate.

They are in a bigger mess , so he will be reelected....
We just need strong candidate. You know John everything changes in 1-2 years and nothing changes over 10-20 years.

So much for cutbacks with the government. Milei set up a new office to debunk "lies" about him. 🤣

I guess hay plata after all.

This smells of desperation to me. Usually fact checking organizations have to have rules that require them to be transparent about their methodology, how they are funded and how they will be staffed. None of these things exist because Milei is directly involved with government staff in his party.

The Office of Official Response will be headed by Juan Pablo Carreira , an official who is also one of the leading libertarian propagandists and who reports to strategist Santiago Caputo. Sources in the Chief of Staff's office say that the area will also be "supervised" by Manuel Adorni and his Press Secretary, Javier Lanari. According to information obtained by LA NACION, the President ordered the creation of this office .

Okay so here is the thing, if 2 parties steal, and everyone knows that, no doubts.

First party has been stealing for 40 years and people have seen the consequences. Now, the second party is stealing but there is an imaginary expectation that things could be positive, who would one vote for?

No doubts??? You sound new to Argentina. What imaginary expectation? The country is falling apart! Look at all the homeless.

Don’t you see stores closing and unemployment rising? What world are you living in?

Many of us don't want to go back to Kirchnerism. That doesn't work but we have yet to see if this works either. NO party should be stealing from the people. I wish I could say we need to find someone that won't but that will probably be impossible in Argentina.

It's insane that there isn't more outrage of people that their elected leaders are blatantly stealing from them. That thing with Milei's sister was plain as day. Crazy that he wouldn't fire her. Makes me think if he wouldn't for that he wouldn't for anything. Not comfortable with a long term solution if elected leaders can so blatantly steal and not fear at all.

Argentina is definitely one big mess. Nothing really seems to work here. You know when you go to the grocery store and there is a 45 minute line to check out and half the vegetables and fruit are rotten there are issues.

Sometimes being new brings new perspective that old aren't able to perceive. I am new, I agree, but help me understand.

Are you saying there was no homelessness, no stores closing, no unemployment before dec 2024 and all this is new? I saw many old news on Youtube before coming to Argentina, it just sounded to me the same probably worse e.g. barter system, etc.

I come from that part of the world, where what I see here is not normal at all. But, what I see the direction in which this country is going (towards open economy) is what I called positive expectation.

So, I will once again say, if there is some sort of positive expectation that could happen, people will take it and thats what happened in mid-terms, IMO.

New can be ok but I wouldn't dismiss the old-timers or people from Argentina. There are a lot of boom and bust cycles when people said this time is different. Some stuff is working. Others not so much. Some people have hope (just like they did in other cycles) but then that hope can only last so long.

As long as people can hang on to hope but lots of hope is fading too. I think it is a coin toss to be honest. For most expats they actually do better when Peronists ruin the country. Others don't care too much because they have plenty of money no matter which way things are going.

precisely my point! If the coin toss has fallen this time on the side of the current govt, they need to be given 4 years (or more) to prove that the chance was worth it or not. To expect a miracle and loose patience is undoing all positives that may or may not happen with time.

Good advice. I have been through a few cycles. Best is to enjoy Argentina no matter who is in office. I learned a while ago you can complain but it doesn't really matter. I have a paid off apartment in BA now and although prices have gone up, it doesn't matter to me who is in office. I assume all politicians are stealing in Argentina and most are full of sh*t. I don't think Milei is any different.

People have hope until they don't.

He has goofed up plenty of times. But then again they all do in Argentina. Seen many Presidents come and go since I bought my place in Palermo back in 2003. @Nasdaq said it right that things go good until they don't.

There were plenty of problems before Milei started and there will be plenty of problems after he leaves office too.

The best way to figure out if there is positive expectation is to talk to people in the street and locals. Poor, rich, middle class. So far it's split on if things will work out or not. In taxis and Ubers I ask and it's split with half swearing Milei is improving things and half calling him a hijo de puta.
