My questions before heading to Buenos Aires

Hi Everyone, I have some questions before traveling to BA:

  1. Are there places where I can find authentic US-brand shoes that have been imported from the US in Buenos Aires?
  2. When renting a place in Buenos Aires, who pays the realtor fees, the landlord or the tenant?
  3. Where can I find raw milk in Buenos Aires?
Thanks in advance.

Hey! You can find authentic US-brand shoes at malls like Alto Palermo, Paseo Alcorta, and also at Complejo Los Arcos, but they’re really expensive here.
From what I know, the tenant usually pays the realtor fees. I can’t help you with raw milk since I don’t consume it, but I’m sure someone in this forum can assist you.

You can also find authentic US-brand shoes on Mercado Libre, but like Camile said, they’re really expensive. As for raw milk, you can get it at La Recría, I always buy from them. They have lots of organic and agroecological products.

@Drjosh just make sure you don't get info from idiotic posts like this one:

easier just to find a cheap place on Airbnb and not have to worry about Argentine weird rental situations with insurance and all that. most of the time these only apply to people with DNI numbers who are renting for 1-2 years

did you end up going?

Wow I just took a look at the X and all kinds of people calling Argentines racist.

What was idiotic about his post? I thought kind of the same as him. It was hyped up. The restaurants and food weren't all that great (I posted while I was there). I thought the girls were nothing to write home about and the people aren't nearly as friendly as in other parts of Latin America.

The long term rentals are crazy. You either have to ask someone with a property to cosign for you or pay the entire year up front! I had to pay a whole year up front. Airbnb is not always easy to find a long term rental. I think @Darksider415 has been renting long term. I read their post. @Darksider415 did you find your rental online? Which portal did you use. Did you use Airbnb at all for Long term rentals?

That is my experience. Many owners are totally flaky on Airbnb. I tried to ask owners to do a deal outside of Airbnb and Airbnb immediately sent me an email saying it would kick me off their platform if I broke the rules. I guess AI is helping them immediately spot when people are trying to do that.

A bunch on Zonaprop want you to have a co-signer or pay all up front. What happens if you pay all up front and there is a problem? Anyone go through that? I can't imagine anything works well in Argentina if there are problems.

I found mine on MercadoLibre, but I also have a DNI and income en blanco in Argentina.

If you don't have local income declared and a DNI, forget about it and find a property owner who is willing to let you pay, or get a cheap Airbnb.

Yes the DNI is essential with local income. And not just local income but DECLARED income which 50% are in black here. If you're a foreigner you will probably have to pay 6-12 months up front. That's what I had to do before I bought my place.

Argentines racist.
EU and USA leftists are literally retarded, and project their hatred onto others. i have been in the military and around the world to over 50 countries and i think i've met maybe 3 dudes from small-town USA who didn't like black people. that's it. but overwhelmingly when a group of people get together for a task, no one cares about skin or ethnicity, they just care about how much you contribute or f*ck-over the team

that being said, there's a ton of racism in the world, but not from regular USA or Argentina citizens; tons of Arabs and many Islamists are highly racist of black skin, universities are racist against Asians and white skin, black communists in South Africa are racist as hell and they actually slaughter whites and brag about it. and anyone who takes a weekend trip to Dubai can see just how racist and disgusting the UAE is against Ugandans, Kenyans, Filipinos, etc. - and that's their best city; imagine how Saudi Arabia is. Muslim-majority countries still have literal slavery, yet commies cry in the West about racism :/

What was idiotic about his post?
he claims BsAs is a 5/10 now, implying it has somehow gotten worse based on his named metrics. it's idiotic because it's wrong and stupid. what's different from 2 years ago? it was communist and the poverty was high and hyperinflation was in full swing, so he could get a $3 USD steak at a restaurant?

"it's cold in the winter" - uhhhh. wtf? compared to where?

people aren't friendly? well buddy, you're in a city of 13 million people, the New York City of Argentina. no sh*t people are busy and unfriendly to strangers sometimes. this is NOT the case in Cordoba and Mendoza. totally different, noticeable, and most people where i'm at don't like going to the BsAs concrete jungle.

were people more friendly 2 years ago? man that dude on twitter really is a moron.

I thought the girls were nothing to write home about and the people aren't nearly as friendly as in other parts of Latin America.
but he's claiming that NOW CABA is a 5/10 but it was much higher "before" (whenever that was), so somehow all the women became less attractive and everyone became mean. this is a very stupid thing to say; you're missing the part where he says there has been a change and you're conflating a comparison between capital cities in LatAm, which is a fair thing to do. for instance, here are some fair observations:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

and here's a criticism about the SteakBros like the moronic twitter poster in question:

if you CHOOSE to value a year or 2 commitment over the flexibility, price, and what i consider to be freedom (yes there are downsides, but moving every 3 months is not that hard for 90% of people...they are just fat and lazy)

just book on Airbnb for a week or a month and ask to pay in Dollars for longer. if they say no, you've met the 80% of retards and can move-on until you find a good landlord. i enjoy moving; i've seen much more of BsAs by moving and running for exercise than the Uber-rides-for-3-minutes permatourists that don't like to get their white sneakers dirty 🙂

Many owners are totally flaky on Airbnb
book on Airbnb, if they're flaky you will get your money back. that's why they charge us 18% fees

I tried to ask owners to do a deal outside of Airbnb and Airbnb immediately sent me an email saying it would kick me off their platform if I broke the rules. I guess AI is helping them immediately spot when people are trying to do that.
i've gotten that email dozens of times. airbnb is too incompetent, but for sure i try to trick the algorithm and be sneaky. best to book, not message about it, then on WhatsApp or in-person discuss.

get a cheap Airbnb.
which i did for 12 months straight in 3 provinces, and it worked fine. still does, i'm sure.

If you're a foreigner you will probably have to pay 6-12 months up front. That's what I had to do before I bought my place.
and what were the savings of doing this, and the results of being in a fixed place with repairs and issues? i found Airbnb to be fantastic for 95% of my needs.
