Accompanied by his economic team, President Javier Milei gave a speech this Monday that was broadcast on the national network to celebrate that the Government achieved the quarterly financial surplus, but he also took advantage of the occasion to question the political class and Congress, which criticized for not supporting his reforms, defending the direction of his measures and giving a sign of hope to society.

“First of all, I want to tell all Argentines that I understand that the situation we are experiencing is hard, but also that we have already gone more than halfway,” the national leader began by saying, sitting at the table in the White Hall of the Casa Rosada, where the video was recorded in the afternoon.

Next to him, standing with his hands in front, were the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo ; the Secretary of Finance, Pablo Quirno , and the head and vice president of the Central Bank, Santiago Bausili and Vladimir Werning , respectively, whom the head of state described as “heroes.”

During his presentation, which was read, Milei maintained that “this is the last leg of a heroic effort that we Argentines are making and for the first time in a long time it will be worth it,” despite “the predictions of the majority of the political leaders, the professional television economists and tribune firecrackers, the specialized journalists and a good part of the Argentine establishment .”

The statement was in line with what the ruling party had been maintaining, which is confident that the adjustment and shock measures are “the only mechanism for the situation to improve and people to eat again,” according to government sources detailed to Infobae .

However, no mention was made of the mobilization that managers and students of public universities called for this Tuesday in rejection of an alleged definancing of the sector, an issue that for the national authorities "is a finished issue", after the proposal of update of funds that they recently presented.

The President did highlight that “the national public sector registered a financial surplus of more than 275,000 million pesos during the month of March , thus achieving, after more than almost 20 years, a financial surplus of 0.2% of GDP during the first quarter of the year.”

Before explaining the economic situation that he found when he took office, the national president remarked that, although this information “seems simply a technical definition that does not affect the lives of Argentines,” it is the “only point of possible departure to end the inflationary hell once and for all.”

“Today we can affirm, without a doubt, that, despite the opposition of a good part of the economic and political establishment of Argentina, despite those who systematically question our ideas and despite those who directly proclaim our failure to return to power, “The government was right and our plan is working ,” he added.

In this way, Milei ratified the direction taken by his administration and denied that a change in strategy was going to be generated and, at this point, he addressed "all those who believe that these successes are temporary" and who consider that at some point is going to “increase public spending,” to warn them that “that will never happen.”

In this sense, he anticipated that they will "promote a dynamic of savings and tax reduction until Argentina has a level of public spending and tax pressure in line with that of a country that needs to grow."

Furthermore, the national channel was broadcast at the beginning of the week in which the plenary session of committees that will discuss the new Bases Law is expected to begin in the Chamber of Deputies and, in this context, the President reproached the legislators for their lack of support both in the reform package and in the DNU that was rejected in the Senate.

“We are making the impossible possible, even with the majority of politics, unions, journalism and a good part of the economic actors against it. And we are doing it, even with limited margins for maneuver, as a result of the fact that Congress has not yet given this Government the tools that all past administrations had ,” he stressed.

According to sources close to the negotiations with the opposition, the plenary session of committees will finish "polishing the fine print" of the text, with the aim of achieving the greatest possible consensus and that, this time, the initiative is approved when it goes to the table. enclosure.

For this reason, the ruling party would be willing to remove from the law some of the articles that still generate differences, as is the case with some aspects of the labor reform, although the national authorities trust that the project will be sanctioned.

At the end of his speech, Milei sought to convey hope and recognized “the heroic effort of the majority of Argentines who are suffering,” to whom he spoke in a biblical tone: “There is not a day that goes by that does not amaze me. all those who accompany us, the integrity with which they are facing this challenge. There is no alternative but to surrender at the feet of a people who have decided to abandon slavery and undertake the long road through the desert towards the promised land.”
