Flying into AEP (Aeroparque) airport in Buenos Aires with dogs?

First of all thanks for a great forum. I've been lurking a few weeks and got so much great info. I found the forum form a search on Gemini. Glad I did.

We’ll be arriving in July with the intention of relocating to Argentina, and we’ll be bringing our 3 small dogs. Two will travel in the cabin with us, and one will be in cargo as he is too big for the cabin.

Has anyone flown into AEP with pets? I understand that cargo animals are collected from a separate building. Is that correct?

We’ll also have quite a bit of luggage. For the two cabin dogs, how straightforward is the customs process at AEP? Do they simply check the paperwork, or does a veterinarian also examine the pets upon arrival?

Regarding our dog traveling in cargo, how easy is it to locate the building to pick her up? I’ve heard someone mention they were charged around USD 200 upon arrival does anyone know what that fee covers? And overall, is the cargo pickup process fairly quick and smooth, or can it take a while?

Since we’ll have luggage and two dogs with us, I’m concerned about having to move around the airport too much. Is there luggage storage available at AEP where we could temporarily store our bags?

I am not sure about AEP but we have had co-workers of my husband that got relocated fly down with their pets. Their dog was in cargo hold. They didn't have to go to a different building. Their pup came out from a small door where the luggage comes out.

Make sure your health certificates and paperwork are all in order. When you go through customs there is an area for animal control near customs area. Our friends said they were worried but it wasn't a problem. There is a very helpful thread on this forum. You can use the search which is very good. Someone outlined their experience with their dog. I sent that to my friend which found it helpful.

If you have a lot of luggage and dogs I would recommend that you already have a private driver to pick you up. Many drivers don't take dogs so it's best to have this arranged ahead of time. Feel free to DM me @Marianne D and I can recommend someone to you that works with my wife's family. He has done this before. We had a friend that made the mistake of thinking they could just arrange this upon landing and had a heck of a time.

I am not sure if the process is different for cats but a girl that moved into my building told me she brought her cat as cargo. I am not sure why she didn't bring it on the plane but I don't believe it was allowed. She was traveling from New Zealand. She said she had to go into a separate building and jump through many hoops including a meeting with a Sense veterinarian who checked all the various paperwork. She had to make the appointment ahead of time. She was telling me what a nightmare it all was after a long flight.

I don't know if it is easier if a dog is traveling as checked cargo vs. carrying on. It sounds like some had an easier time so I'm not sure why she had such an ordeal but many things in Argentina are like that where you can have two different agents and have totally different experiences.

Thank you so much! I will read this. I didn't see it before but I will do a search and see if there are other posts.

This is a GREAT idea Wally. I sent you a DM. It would help to use someone that you know to help us with transportation as we need a big SUV. I will read through this. I'm not sure how long it will take to get through but that would be a relief if someone would wait and I can send a Whatsapp when I land and keep them informed as we move through. You are a lifesaver.

I wonder if the process is different at AEP. I will read that guide. Thanks everyone.
