Medical Clinic recommendation to get STD (sexually transmitted disease) and STI (sexually transmitted infection) blood testing?

Funny story. I didn't know there would be a female doctor and it was a little embarrassing but I had to do a consultation with her. She is beautiful. I was so embarrassed having to show her my private parts.

That would be really embarrassing having a female hottie doctor looking at my genital warts! Can you request a male physician with them?

You don't need to pay for STD tests. There are options to get it done free. Fundacion Huésped does them free.

Or you can go to a Cesac Public Health Center. There are a few in Palermo. You should probably go with someone that speaks Spanish as they don't speak English there. Or at least the ones I have been to. Sometimes there is a wait but at least they are free.

They might be free but lines are very long. I tried one and even going very early in the morning the line was very long. There had to be at least 80 people in line. I'd rather just pay $40 bucks as I put a value on my time.

Who knew that so many of you were so active. It is crazy but I have my dad in a nursing home in the US and the nurse told me the biggest problem they are dealing with in the old folks home is STD's. I couldn't believe it but looks like this is a big problem.

Yes this is a real issue. STD rates have jumped up. More than doubled in the 65+ year old. Kind of gross to think about.

Who knew we had so many expat studs in BA. 🤣

Here is one for the group. In the U.S. all the STD tests are with blood and urine and that gives all the results fairly quickly. Here at several places I have gone to for tests (chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc) they do a swap up the urethra. Terrible! Anyone know why they do this here?

It's usually because:

  • The lab’s protocol is older
  • The clinic is following traditional guidelines
  • They don’t have urine-based NAAT processing available
  • Or it’s a public hospital with standardized swab kits
Urine NAAT requires: Specific collection kits, proper lab handling and newer equipment which many Argentine hospitals don't have.

Some private clinics in Argentina absolutely use urine NAAT.

But some smaller labs default to swabs, use testing kits they already have or have agreements with their lab partners.

I would skip those places that do the old way.

Many places they have both options so ask them. Trinidad Medical Center has the urine. My cousin works for the USA Embassy and had to get one and they only accepted urine test. I'm not sure why he had to get tested but he claims they made him for work. 🤣

Helios listed above does urine tests.

For tests, consultations and good and reliable information about STDs I'd recommend the Centro de Estudios Infectologicos Stamboulian. They have their own lab there.

That sounds worse than a Pap smear! Honestly the doctors here are not too aware about STDs. I was surprised when I moved here on the lack of info. I went to a lab when I moved here and they told me I needed a doctor's order to get the test. I was like WHAT?? I don't think people get tested here compared to the US where there are many clinics. Where I lived they did them absolutely free in the USA and you could go in each week.

I can relate. When I moved here I went to my gynecologist and she said they don't do urine STD tests in Argentina. This was many years ago. It sounds like they have them now. I went to a disagnostic center and asked them there for urine test and she said urine test wasn't available here. I told her in Australia we do it like that and she said maybe it was more advanced there.

I am not sure if you have been given the correct information. Chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc., through a urine sample, is definitely possible, and many labs here do it. In fact, many labs, whether through walk-ins or home visits, do not perform urethral swabs, or it is not common, for sure.

They are becoming more common now. A urethral swab does NOT sound fun!

I think it's funny but then it makes sense as there is no fear of pregnancy 😃
My grandpa is in a nursing home in Miami and it's wild. I joke he has more fun than me. They have tons of activities that are awesome. He is getting laid more there than ever in his life. Yes no fear of pregnancy.

But I've found that growing up condom use was more common but now all females aren't afraid of getting pregnant because none of them want kids and all on the pill. My trips to BA none of the females care about using protection. It's wild! Hence probably why everyone needs STD test recommendations!
