Cheaper imports, higher prices? Make it make sense

Argentine companies are starting to replace local manufacturing with imports, and with huge markups. I read a report saying a well-known company is selling an imported folding chair at almost 8x its cost 🤯

On one hand, I get that importing can be easier or cheaper. But on the other, it feels like a bad sign: less local production, fewer jobs, and more pressure on dollars… while prices stay sky-high.

So what do you think, smart business move or a bigger problem for the economy?

And if costs are actually much lower, why are prices still so high? Should there be some kind of oversight on pricing, or is this just how the market works? Because this kind of behavior just seems to make the crisis worse.

Not surprised at all. It’s always the same here, costs go down, prices never do. Saw the same thing with electronics when imports opened up. And on top of all this, factories are still shutting down. Not long ago it was Fate, over 900 employees were laid off overnight. The official reason was that they couldn’t compete with the price of imported tires. So yeah, this really doesn’t look like a good thing.
