Argentina more Corrupt with Milei - In Milei's second year, Argentina worsened its rating in the world ranking that measures corruption

Things are getting worse not better with the corruption. Argentina is actually going backwards with International corruption organizations.

The country fell back five places on the Transparency International list, compared to the previous report. The data became known after the prosecution of the former head of ANDIS, Diego Spagnuolo, for irregularities.

Argentina fell five places in the ranking of the Perception of Corruption index carried out by the organization Transparency International, which year after year analyzes the performance of countries at a global level. The country went from 99th place in 2024 to 104th in 2025, with 36 points out of 100, in the second year of President Javier Milei's term. In this way it is ranked 106th among 182 nations.

The new report became known after the prosecution without preventive detention of the former head of the National Disability Agency (ANDIS), Diego Spagnuolo, in the case for corruption in the agency. Added to the Libra case and the resignation of Demian Reidel as head of Nucleoelectric Argentina amid suspicions of overpricing.
The organization warned, in the case of Argentina, that "investigations into alleged corruption in the management of funds for medicines for people with disabilities show similar risks for vulnerable groups." Argentina shares the position with Belize and Ukraine, and is above other countries such as Zambia, Lesotho, Gambia, and the Dominican Republic.

Argentina ranks 19th out of 33 countries in America, where those with the best scores are Canada (75 points) in 16th place, and Uruguay (73 points) in 17th place. While Nicaragua and Venezuela are the countries with the worst ratings on the continent.

The president of Citizen Power, Martín D´Alessandro, said in this regard that "it is widely known that solid and socially efficient capitalist development is not obtained with magical passes in rhetoric and at the same time sweeping the earth under the carpet, but with adequate and sustained policies over time." He warned that "in the case of integrity, and in light of the available international evidence, these policies constitute an increasingly urgent outstanding debt."

While the executive director of Poder Ciudadano, Pablo Secchi, explained: "The bad news for Argentina in this index is related to the total absence of interest on the part of the Government in promoting anti-corruption policies."

Secchi made strong warnings to the Government regarding transparency, after the dissemination of a new Transparency International report: "Nothing was done in these two years to prevent and sanction corruption. To this are added the cases of $LIBRA and the National Disability Agency that, in addition to the suspicion of corruption, did not generate a forceful response from the Government."

You will never get rid of corruption in Argentina. Still he keeps getting caught over and over again and these are only the ones we know about. Undoubtably there are many more. These are the ones he and his sister are getting caught.

He should have cut ties with his sister long ago after Libragate. It's clear to me he will go down with the ship with her if he has to.

She is bad news.

I saw that. Very disappointing to see Argentina going down in the rankings under Milei but I guess that is what happens when you lie, cheat and steal.

That is what I think will be his downfall is that he won't fire his sister. That is a huge liability when you don't have good judgement and can't separate family from work. I just see an eventual collapse. What plan is there really in place?

I thought maybe this was fake news but indeed Argentina is getting worse with corruption. Proof positive nothing has changed when it comes to corruption. Can't say anything about the Kirchner's when Milei's are doing the same thing.

And all of you were complaining about Cristina! Milei and his friends are worse. And the international community know it!
There's no excusing the ongoing corruption in Argentina, but Milei's administration has a long ways to go before joining the leagues of Kirchner and Chavez. The Kirchners' accountant testified they stole about $10 billion, and here's a snapshot of the surreal level of corruption under Chavez:

@CraigM do you have doubts if Milei and his sister are given enough time in office they won't hit these kind of numbers???

One would need many, many years in office to hit K type of numbers. They are on another scale and level.

Seeing the outcome of what could happen I doubt Milei and his family would come anywhere close to Kirchner's but I wouldn't be willing to put money on it. Usually when someone is getting busted in scandals it's only the tip of the iceberg. For every scandal that comes to light, there are probably 10 more scams going on.

there all corrupt.
In Argentina I would have to believe almost all of these politicians are corrupt. It was disappointing to see President Milei getting caught up in these scandals. Before them I thought maybe he can turn around Argentina but probably impossible without robbing the country blind which sounds like he is doing just like Kirchners.

Probably given enough time in office they might get bolder.

Totally. Probably for every one that they are getting caught on there are 10 more they aren't getting caught. Milei's seem to be very sloppy to get involved with these grifts so early in his campaign.

The international press were so in love with Milei in the beginning but a lot of the shine rubbed off when he got caught in the crypto scandal. I was surprised by that.

This latest episode made me laugh. Wouldn't most of these people in this level already be speaking English? All my educated Argentine friends speak English very well. I have a neighbor that works in the government and their level of English is excellent. Seems like a scam to bilk millions for teaching this type level professionals English.

I think this will be his downfall. His sister doesn't really seem like she cares much. From the outside looking in it looks like a money grab to make as much as possible before they leave office.

This is what I was thinking. How many of these people really need English lessons? And if so, are they the right people to be working in this type of job?

Much of this is probably tip of the iceberg. Milei has some good initiatives but let's be honest, if someone keeps repeatedly getting caught stealing over and over what chance do they have long term??

I for one think that Milei would do the same thing if given enough years. Already involved with several gifts so what makes you all think he is any better than Cristina? His first grift was very quickly after getting voted in. I'm betting against a turn around with Milei. Sure some of his ideas are good but they won't be enough.

In my opinion, Argentina’s problems are cultural and societal. For 100 years the country has shown a pattern of saying one thing and doing another, maintaining a self-image that doesn’t match economic reality, and behaving much like its regional neighbors. That long-term pattern is what I’m betting against.

I believe the root issues lie in the broader society, and no single administration or short-term project can fix that. Argentina’s reputation globally is that of a deadbeat serial defaulter, a country that repeatedly goes back on its word. Even someone like Milei can’t change that overnight and he already is proven to be a criminal. Rebuilding credibility will take decades.

To me, that’s just a practical, long-term view, even if others who are living here are optimistic about the situation see it differently. I think once Trump is out of office Milei and Argentina are toast.
