background. general contractor that started with a pager and quarters in my pocket. moved on to a bag phone. computers became available and i started on DOS and created spreadsheets with “if then do to”. smaller cell phones became available. lotus was new for spreadsheets. great for bidding and turning a proposal into a bill. the math got me off the 10 key and was always correct. soon we had scheduling programs and office with excell. the new technology is a struggle. i will keep trying to get better. 🍺

Well the good thing about Argentina now I guess is no one is going to "chase cheap" now. Prices are very expensive now.

That is for sure. I see Argentina had to freeze fuel prices for 45 days. Things sound like if they don't do that prices will skyrocket again.

Every time I want to complain about something I think of the people in Argentina. I have nothing to complain about.

Sorry, no. It's impossible to argue with twits who can't provide evidence to support their opinion and rely on anecdotal evidence only which begins with "I saw...", "a friend said..." or "I read somewhere..." If the 'expats' in South America are best represented by the thinking in this forum, heaven help us all,. Now the first person to respond to this is really the one who 'likes to argue'.

I have the same thoughts as Craig. Most of us live in the real world where we have to not only save up enough for the present but the future. Some of us want to be able to get married, have a few kids maybe and fund retirement. Enough things to worry about vs. human rights abuses (whatever that means).

I met some dreamy eyed guys in BA on my last trip. Met the same in Colombia. They quit their decent paying jobs back home (Canada or US) and bragging how they can live in Colombia or BA on $1600 a month. I was thinking to myself these people are nuts. They had no savings. Not sure what their life plan is but maybe they too didn't like the human rights violations. 😱

Yes prices already jumped up at the pump 20% since the war broke out. Too fast too soon for Argentina which is heavy dependent on trucking. But make no mistake. They will likely keep prices high at the pump long after prices come down. Oil prices don't look like they are going to come down for a while.

Jerry your posts come off as angry at the world (especially America). I believe you said you're living in Argentina. Argentina is far from perfect. America beats it in almost every way.

And yet another sign of mental health issues. This one is called all-or-nothing thinking. Sorry, LongIslander, but it's not either 'good human rights' or the economy (capitalist thinking). It can be both.

All-or-nothing thinking (also known as black-and-white or dichotomous thinking) is a cognitive distortion where you see things in extreme, binary terms. There is no middle ground, no "gray area," and no room for nuance.

In this mindset, anything less than a total success is viewed as a complete failure.
