The president Javier Milei will make his first official trip as Argentine president this week, to participate in the Davos World Economic Forum, and leaves in Buenos Aires the discussion for the Omnibus Law, which enters its final stage before its eventual vote in Congress.

The head of state plans to leave for the city of Switzerland this Monday, at 6:00 p.m., along with a small number of companions: the chancellor Diana MondinoGerardo Werthein, and the designated ambassador to the United States, Luis Caputo; the Minister of Economy, Nicolás Posse; the Chief of Staff, Karina Milei; the Secretary General of the Presidency,

From that moment on, the Government in the country will remain, also for the first time, in the hands of the vice president Victoria Villarruel, who Not only will he have to take charge of the Executive Branch, but he will also have to continue with parliamentary negotiations.

Together with the head of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem, he will closely follow the conversations with the opposition blocs to try to advance with the sanction of the so-called Law of bases and starting points for the freedom of Argentines.

The objective of the ruling party is to have an opinion from the corresponding commissions during this week so that the initiative can be voted on next January 24, for when the strike and mobilization of the CGT is scheduled, or even a day later, to prevent the march from affecting the debate.

In accordance with what was established by Decree 76/2023, Congress was called to hold extraordinary sessions “from December 26, 2023 until January 31, 2024″, so the Government does not have much time to obtain the opinion.

For now, after the presentations of the Ministers of the Interior, Guillermo Francos; of Security, Patricia Bullrich, and of Justice, Mariano Cúneo Libarona, among other officials, explaining and defending the main points of the package, the turn of representatives of different social sectors begins.

For this Monday, experts from the area of biofuels, the labor world, the Agricultural Intercooperative Confederation (Coningro), renewable energies, the SMEs Industrial Union (UIPBA), metallurgists, those in wine, tourism and pharmaceuticals.

Even presentations by important union leaders are scheduled for this day, such as that of Héctor Daer, one of the General Secretaries of the CGT, and that of the leader of the Autonomous CTA, Hugo “Cachorro” Godoy, very critical of this project.

Under this scenario and without Milei in Argentina, Villarruel and Menem will seek to convince as many members of the opposition as possible to guarantee the opinion of the commissions before the return of the President, who will speak at the Davos Forum on Wednesday and will be back on Friday.

For his part, although he is collaborating in the conversations, Minister Franco does not plan new meetings with the governors of Together for Change, who were dissatisfied with some of the President's statements.

It is dangerous and deeply disrespectful to affirm that there are spurious interests in seeking modifications to the Omnibus Law or marking any disagreement with the DNU. Many of us consider that the centralist attitude of seeking fiscal objectives only affecting regional economies and central productive activities in the interior, increasing revenue through non-shareable tariffs, is inadmissible," said the president of Chubut, Ignacio Torres.

Last Friday, after having received Rogelio Frigerio at the Casa Rosada, the Minister of the Interior again saw the president of Entre Ríos and the other 9 governors of the PRO and the Radical Civic Union, in a zoom.

The national official did not meet, however, with the head of the radical bloc in Deputies, Rodrigo De Loredo, who also expressed his unrest this Sunday and urged Milei to “proceed to denounce and investigate” those legislators who he believes have hidden interests why they do not support the entire package.

“The President's statements are not going to intimidate our behavior, which despite the systematic grievances, finds us in the position of giving the Government the legal tools it needs to carry out its government plan without excesses and without leaving the most defenseless sectors. vulnerable members of society, like our retirees,” he argued.

This task is exclusive to Villarruel and Menem, who are the ones carrying out the negotiations with the parliamentary representatives, although now most of the tasks could fall to the Riojan, since the vice president must also manage the Executive Branch until he returns. his running mate.
