Expat Life: Local Discoveries, Global Connections

Newcomer What are some good movies to watch on Netflix to learn Spanish and watch some of the local culture that feature Buenos Aires?

The award ceremony felt like a political rally, haha! So many political speeches from the Kirchnerists, but the Gold and Platinum awards went to Francella and Brandoni, who stayed afloat thanks to the private sector. Believe it or not, for thinking differently, actor organizations that relied on the state always sidelined them, there was even a famous blacklist. Now, at last, the K's scam is over.

Guillermo Francella won the Martín Fierro Gold Award for the series El Encargado! If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it!

Guillermo Francella is outrageously funny, you look at his face and you start laughing. Mi Obra Maestro is good. Casado con Hijos, the Argentine Married with Children is a full of cultural references. Highly recommend it.

He is my favorite Argentine actor. Always great in anything he is in. I haven't watched Married with Children but will have to start that. Love him.

Homo Argentum starring the great Guillermo Francella is in theaters now. It is a a bunch of vignettes of him doing Argentine stereotypes. I reccomend anyone to go see it in theaters right now. You will be surrounded by a bunch of people laughing very hard. 10/10 cultural experience.

If you’ve seen the series El Marginal, you should definitely check out the new one En el Barro. I finished it yesterday and honestly, it’s really good, definitely worth watching. It also has a lot of typical Argentine slang and expressions (the kind only Argentinians would fully get). I really recommend it.

That movie has a lot of reviews, some really good, others really bad, but the negative ones mostly come from Kirchneristas circles haha, probably because they gave it a political label. I’m going to see it in the cinema today and I’ll tell you how it was. What I can say is that there are about 10 showings per day, so it seems to be a hit.
