trump vs venezuela

Slightly off topic but on the ame theme.
Would it be OK for USA to invade Greenland and oust the current government?
If you seriously believe that Trump would invade Greenland and oust the current government, then you must be the same type of people who mistake his negotiation style as being a TACO. Of course he is NOT going to invade Greenland! The risk vs. reward makes zero sense to do that. That would mean the US exits NATO and become the enemy of the world! He is simply giving the other side a way to save face when he gets what he actually wants. The US already has full strategic use of Greenland. What Trump wants is to avoid what happened with the Panama Canal after the US gave up control. He wants the US (and US companies) to invest in Greenland. He wants to make sure that the US will control the results of those investments and to reap its benefits forever, He is saying all those things to get a treaty that would make those guarantees. If he doesn't get it, he just won't invest in Greenland and the comments will be used as a pretext to prevent adversaries from going anywhere near it.

oil rush. i have no problem with your post with one exception. your saying the un is putting non white people on the counsel. there are alot of north americans that aren’t white. theirr are in my mind alot of non white people in north america that aren’t white quite capable of representing the usa. we can start with obama. just saying

This morning , I spoke with a friend in Caracas.

He has given all his employees a one week vacation, as its too dangerous to be out in the streets.

There is huge uncertainty about what is happening .

Basically no one is in control

Maduro has been detained but it seems that no one really thought what would happen afterwards.
Is your friend happy what happened to Maduro or is he upset?

I am against any country that commits illegal acts in another country.
But I guess "illegal acts" is up for interpretation. Just because you say it is illegal doesn't mean it is.

I would be surprised if your friend told you that he was upset what happened. I have yet to speak to one Venezuelan that is upset by what happened. Sounds like a one week vacation is a nice vacation.

Greenland is not Venezuela and the government did not do what the government of Venezuela did. The USA wouldn't take Greenland but they probably would be open to buying it.

Are you against what the government was doing to the citizens there? Seems like the ones complaining about what happened are mostly whites that haven't really had to struggle before or had everything they owned taken from them. I doubt most of them care what anyone outside of Venezuela thinks.

Apples and oranges. IF the government in Greenland did what Chavez and Maduro did sure bomb away...

Saw this online. Awesome.

Sentiments of Venezuelans

I’m going to say this once, and I don’t care if it makes people uncomfortable.

If you have never lived in Venezuela

If you did not grow up there

If you did not watch your country collapse in real time

If you did not stand in food lines

If you did not watch your parents lose everything they built

If you did not have to leave your home with nothing

Then shut the f*ck up.

You do not have an opinion.

Your opinion does not matter.

And you don’t get to lecture anyone about what’s happening there.

I’m Venezuelan.

I lived there most of my life until my early twenties.

I watched my country go from a functioning democracy to full blown socialism right in front of my eyes.

This is not politics to me.

This is trauma.

Before socialism, Venezuela was not perfect, but it worked.

There was trade.

There was money coming in.

There was investment from the US.

There were jobs.

There was food.

There was medicine.

My family had five businesses.

We had our home

We had investments.

We had a future.

Then the government started nationalizing everything.

Private companies were taken.

Foreign investors were pushed out.

Imports were blocked.

Price controls destroyed production.

Corruption exploded.

And everything died.

Not slowly.

Violently.

People didn’t suddenly become poor because of “capitalism” or “the US” or whatever bullshit slogan people like to repeat online.

They became poor because socialism destroyed incentives, destroyed production, destroyed trust, and destroyed hope.

People today in Venezuela are not debating ideology.

They are trying to survive.

They are trying to find food.

Trying to find medication.

Trying to keep their families alive.

So when I see people in the West posting from comfortable homes, full fridges, stable currencies, and safe streets talking about “imperialism” or “US bad” or “Trump this or that”

No.

It’s not complicated.

You’re just ignorant.

China is not rebuilding Venezuela.

Russia is not rebuilding Venezuela.

Cartels are not rebuilding Venezuela.

They are stealing.

They are extracting.

They are draining what’s left.

If the US comes in and reinvests

If refineries get rebuilt

If infrastructure gets restored

If imports open back up

If food, water, and medicine become accessible again

If people can work and earn with dignity

Then yes.

Let them take all the oil they want.

Because at least something gets built instead of destroyed.

This is something to celebrate.

Not because it’s perfect.

But because for the first time in a long time, there is hope.

Hope that families can eat.

Hope that people don’t have to flee their country.

Hope that Venezuela can function again.

If you’ve never lived through a country collapsing

If you’ve never watched socialism destroy everything around you

If you’ve never had to leave your home because staying meant starvation

Then again

Shut the f*ck up.

This isn’t theory.

This isn’t politics.

This is lived experience.
Very well said! I love this. Agree that unless you are from there or gone through their hardships the old saying goes. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one.

I am against any country that commits illegal acts in another country.
What about the illegal acts of the government and what they put their citizens through? I am against illegal action and not crazy about countries invading other countries unless it is warranted. I happen to believe it was warranted but that is just my opinion after spending decades with friends from Venezuela that have suffered.

I laugh at people that try to say Trump will invade Greenland. As you pointed out, the USA already has full control over Greenland.

I wouldn't put money on no eventual action on narco traffickers in Colombia and Mexico. I'd love to see them snuffed out. No way to completely stop it but would love to see the fear of God put to them.

There is uncertainty in life. Change like this is never easy. The question would be is it better to have a period where no one is in control or communists like Maduro stayed in power forever unchallenged. Answers will come in time. This was just the first step. It's not going to come together overnight.

Sounds like yet another reason to celebrate for the everyday citizen. Free week of vacation. 🤣

Bullrich is all too happy for Venezuelans to go back home. I do wonder what will happen with all my Uber and Rappi delivery drivers as many of them are Venezuelan. I wonder how many will go back home and when?

1. No country puts UN laws above their their own laws. Therefore, from the perspective of the country taking the action, it is legal as long as that country's law says it is legal. From the US's perspective, it is legal.

2. Russia, China, or any other country (including the US) will not determine whether to attack based on legality from the perspective of other countries. They will make that determination based on the interests and legality of their own countries, and the risk vs. reward of the operation for their country.
I wonder how many Venezuelans are against what Trump did. I am seeing videos on Tik Tok of people that Trump deported even admitting and applauding and thanking Trump for doing this.

Makes me laugh a little there are so many people that are against liberating these people. Most of them never have been to Venezuela.

He was pleased like most Venezuelans.

But right now he is upset as he says everything that Trump says is not true

It the same guys in control and they are being pretty nasty to the normal guys.

No one is able to go out in the streets or go to work except for supermarkets

He and others I have talked to today say no one thought about what happened after they took maduro out.

Right now their way of life is worse than last week.

This is why Trump probably said that they will be involved in running things for a while but in a country like Venezuela it probably will take time to get sorted out. Step #1 was taking out Maduro. The country is full of nasty people in the government and Maduro getting pulled out probably created a power struggle.

I am curious @GlasgowJohn why can't people go in the streets? I see plenty of people on the streets in videos and the news. How can they go to supermarkets and not out on the street? What is happening to the people?

It will take time but in the long term things will get better. People can't expect things to get solved instantly.

The people there probably thought change would happen quicker but change like this usually takes a long time. Let's just say it will take years not weeks or months. The oppression and misery will take a while.

Still any future dictator there would have to worry on a similar fate for them. Life will be tough for a while.

This is a very good video

This is the situation that surely Trump and his team should have tried to avoid.

But they didnt

And they really dont know what to do.

No perfect solution in doing what they did. The problem is that you only get the first time to have the element of surprise like that. It would be terrible for anyone that celebrated only to be put in jail or worse. I have never been to Venezuela but in the last few times I went to Buenos Aires I met several from Venezuela. Most of the Uber drivers I had when I asked were from Venezuela and I'm told many Rappi drivers delivering food. I also got a haircut one day and he was also from Venezuela. They seem to all love Argentina.
