trump bait and switch

goal achieved. milei wins votes in congress and the US makes money on a kiss and a promise.
Don't fear. Milei (and Argentina) will have plenty of other chances for the USA to bail them out with billions more.

I haven't even been to Buenos Aires yet. 3 cancelled flights. I am in Spain but I still hope to make it to Buenos Aires this year. I still love to check on posts on this website. Very helpful. I love to read posts and I feel like everyone has their own personality on this site. Much like a real family, a lot of problematic and difficult members of the family.

so lets recap this. the us promises 40 billion before the election. in reality they have no money in the game through a fund that is supposed to help forgein countries in finanial crisis. they plege 40 billion before the election. lla wins. the peso goes up temporarily and the market goes 30 percent. besset and his friends get to cash out on bonds they bought for 25 cent on the dollar. milei wins and so does bessets friends. as stated by bessit the us did not lose money. looks like after they bought 2 billion the peso went up allowing them to sell at a profit. all this is supposed to get the yuan out of your banks. the us dominace on trade currency has been waning for a long time.if you trade with the us you need to use the dollar. outside of that, you lost your dominance. so johnny come lately thinks he can make a difference in argentina with a profit only for the hedge funds. sorry i have been following this for along time. slide of the hand and the financial people win. tell i am wrong. i am not adraid to admit i am wrong. respect all opinions

I don't trust most politicians. Many have turned on Trump. Just look in NYC what happened with the city electing that Mayor. Trump's endorsement hurt and people would rather vote in a socialist.
Unfortunately many younger generations will vote more like this in the future. It will be a sad trend. They feel like they have nothing to lose and they want free stuff.

looks like trump and besset pulled the bait and switch

Mission accomplished for Trump to get Milei re-elected. Some people say it didn't matter but it did. Without the USA backstop the exchange rate would have skyrocketed before the election which would have signaled distress. USA Treasury sold $2 billion USD in the foreign exchange market then grants a credit to the Central Bank of Argentina via a swap so that it can sell their dollars without causing a jump up in the exchange rate in the market and left a debt to the Central Bank of Argentina pocketing a big profit.

Markets are all manipulated here.

i think el queso said that way back money does not need to change hands if mission acomplished. agree it had a desired result no matter how it was accomplished. bingo mayors have no power only in their city and its usually put to a vote. remember london has a muslim mayor. the other options in ny weren’t great

i would welcome a definition on socialism. when i went to school a socialist government was one that controlled the major corporations and democracy was wide open to free enterprise.i see alot of different versions of socialism and whats claimed to to democracy. can’t be houses of congress and elections. are you a socialist government if you nationalize companies?

Socialism means different things to different people. Some people think socialism and communism are the same. Just asked ChatGPT and gave this answer.

Socialism today is a bit like a word that has lived several lives. It gets dragged into debates, slapped onto memes, and stretched like pizza dough until it barely resembles its original shape. But underneath all the noise, it still has a core idea.

Here’s the clearest, modern-day way to understand it:

What Socialism Means Today

At its center, socialism is an economic philosophy that says:

The big, essential parts of the economy (energy, transportation, healthcare, education, major industries) should be owned or regulated by the public so that the benefits flow to everyone, not just private owners.

Think of it as the belief that some things should work like a public library rather than a private amusement park.

Key Ideas in Modern Socialism

Most versions today emphasize:
  • Stronger safety nets (healthcare, pensions, unemployment support)
  • Reduced inequality through taxes and public programs
  • Worker protections (unions, collective bargaining, labor standards)
  • Public ownership or heavy regulation of major industries
  • Market participation but with the government playing a larger role than in pure capitalism

What Socialism Is Not (in modern use)

To clear away decades of confusion:
  • It is not abolishing all private property
  • It is not the government controlling everything
  • It is not automatically authoritarian
  • It’s not the same as communism
Modern socialism tends to exist inside democracies, not outside them.

Examples of “Socialist-ish” Systems Today

Most real-world systems are blends, not pure ideologies. Examples often cited:
  • Sweden: strong welfare state + thriving private market
  • Denmark: free education + flexible labor markets
  • Canada: single-payer healthcare + capitalist economy
  • Germany: social market economy with strong worker representation
These aren’t socialist countries, but they use policies inspired by social democratic or socialist thinking.

Why the Definition Has Drifted

The term now gets used in three big ways:

  1. Economic philosophy (public ownership + equality)
  2. Policy style (universal programs, welfare, labor rights)
  3. Political insult (catch-all for “I don’t like that policy”

That third one is why the word can feel foggy — different groups use it differently.

Short, modern definition

Socialism today means a political and economic approach that aims for fairness and shared prosperity by expanding public services and giving the government a bigger role in key sectors, while still allowing markets and private property to exist.

Socialist is thrown around quite a bit today. Look at the new mayor of NYC if you want to see a socialist.
