In the midst of internal differences, the CATT plenary session will discuss the strategy in the face of claims in favor of “free joint ventures” and against the restitution of the Income Tax. Opposition deputies and the co-heads of the CGT Héctor Daer and Pablo Moyano will go

The national plenary session of the Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT), chaired by Sergio Sasia, will debate the strategy that it will follow against the Government

The national plenary session of the Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT) met to debate the economic and social situation, in a growing climate of unrest against the government of Javier Milei, although there would be no consensus to define a measure of force, but rather to “ accompany” the decisions adopted by the CGT in the continuity of its fight plan.

The meeting, which began at 11 at the premises of the Federation of Taxi Workers, at Quintino Bocayuva 1274, involved important unions that bring together truckers , railway workers, aeronautical workers, maritime workers, taxi drivers and - for the first time - subway workers. , among others. Also, special guests: the co-heads of the CGT Héctor Daer (Health) and Pablo Moyano (Truck Drivers), as well as deputies from Unión por la Patria such as the head of the bloc, Germán Martínez, and the union legislators Sergio Palazzo (banking) and Mario Manrique (SMATA).

A strong discussion is expected about the strategy that the powerful transport confederation will follow, especially because Pablo Moyano already assumed that in that plenary session "the need to carry out an action in April will arise", although the head of the CATT Sergio Sasia (Unión Ferroviaria) stated in an interview with Infobae that “ we never rule out a measure, but we are not analyzing it at this time” and highlighted: “We have been accompanying the CGT agenda.”

The co-heads of the CGT Pablo Moyano and Héctor Daer will be invited to the CATT plenary session

Sasia's position, which insists that unionism has to be "prudent and cautious", is in line with that held by the alliance managed by the CGT (led by the "Fat" sector, such as Daer, and the independents Andrés Rodríguez, from UPCN; Gerardo Martínez, from UOCRA, and José Luis Lingeri, from Obras Sanitarias). However, in the CATT there are union leaders who want to speed up protests to prevent the Government from being able to restore the Income Tax, one of the classic flags of the transport unions whose members earn high salaries.

This point will be among the demands that the CATT plenary session will agree on, as well as the demand for “free parities and homologation of salary agreements” (many of which the Government is blocking because they exceed the 15% guideline set by the Ministry of Economy). It would also be proposed to join efforts with the Argentine Confederation of Workers and Employees of Hydrocarbons, Energy, Fuels, Derivatives and Related Products (CATHEDA) against Profits.

In this way, although it does not define a measure of force, the CATT will take an important step for the CGT to set a date for a general strike or a street mobilization. Until now, the Cegetista strategy was to prioritize the protests initiated individually by each union against the adjustment and reform of the State promoted by the libertarian government, but the discomfort of the union leadership has already begun to complicate the deadlines imposed by the leadership of the CGT.

Can the discussion about a strike in the transportation plenary raise temperatures? The combative Pablo Moyano, who will be present, is not part of the leadership of the CATT, but his representative for the Federation of Truck Workers is Omar Pérez, a trusted leader of Hugo Moyano, who holds the position of Union Secretary. And other leaders with a brave imprint have just signed salary agreements, such as the case of Juan Pablo Brey (aeronauts), enrolled in Moyanism, and Pablo Biró (pilots), aligned with Kirchnerism. As anticipated by Infobae, a head of the CGT from the dialogue sector helped with his official contacts to get the Government to agree to give an increase to the aeronautical workers and, in this way, deactivate the trend in favor of unemployment within the CATT.

Similarly, the railway unions managed to sign a salary increase last Friday after the agreement reached at the end of February (as happened with the aeronautical unions) was stopped by the Ministry of Economy on the grounds that it exceeded the Government's salary guideline.

The increase benefits both the moderate Sasia 's union and La Fraternidad, led by the inflexible Omar Maturano, who carried out a 24-hour strike in February in the middle of the negotiations. This last leader pilots the General Union of Transport Workers' Associations (UGATT), an entity that competes with the CATT and is also made up of the anti-Moyanista Roberto Fernández (UTA) and the barrionuevista Carlos Acuña (service stations), co-head of the CGT.
