This week the Government will face several days of conflicts with the most important unions in the country, with strikes and a mobilization of the CGT included, amidst the expectation that a recovery in economic activity and salaries will begin to be felt, a process that they assure that “is already underway” , while the debate on the Bases Law begins in the Senate.

With President Javier Milei traveling to the United States, where he will participate in a global investor conference organized by the Milken Institute , in which he will defend his management plan before some of the most powerful businessmen in the world, in Argentina the unions will begin with different protests in rejection of the reforms proposed by the ruling party.

On the one hand, the State Workers Association (ATE) will hold a series of assemblies this Monday between 8 and 11 in the morning that, according to what they said, will affect flights at 24 airports throughout the country, which could suffer cancellations or suspensions. .

“The Government's adjustment program hits commercial aviation hard and puts the sector at risk. They want to privatize even our sky and leave workers unavailable, and we cannot allow it. Added to the attempt to outsource ANAC functions is the salary freeze. If flights are canceled, it will not be the responsibility of the workers,” said Rodolfo Aguiar , general secretary of ATE.

This measure is included in a series of cessation of activities planned for that same day by the Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT) and which will also harm the normal functioning of land, port and maritime services.

These protests will be the prelude to the general strike that the CGT will carry out next Thursday, which the Government recognizes will not be able to be deactivated, despite the multiple contacts that both sectors have maintained recently.

In fact, a few weeks ago the leaders of the labor union, accompanied by Hugo Moyano , visited the Minister of the Interior, Guillermo Francos , at Casa Rosada to talk about the Base Law and, above all, the labor reform.

Also present at that meeting was the presidential advisor Santiago Caputo , one of the most influential figures within the Government, who thanked them for the meeting and told them that the articles linked to the modification of solidarity quotas were going to be removed from the parliamentary initiative, which It directly affected the unions.

“We want to clarify that we have not discussed or negotiated any project, opinion, or half-sanction that occurred in the Chamber of Deputy. Furthermore, we want to ratify, on behalf of the more than 300,000 comrades who mobilized, that this CGT is not going to give up one iota of the rights won ,” said Héctor Daer , in his initial speech during the event for the Day of the Worker.

Thus, the labor union would carry out its second general strike against Milei's administration on Thursday: the first was carried out on January 24, just 45 days after the libertarian took office and, although a large crowd was expected, at that time opportunity had little compliance.

“About 40 thousand people were what we saw on the street. For us it went just as we had planned. A practically normal day, the mobilization lasted approximately three hours, transportation functioned normally until 7 p.m., and life in the commercial premises has been practically normal," said presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni after that protest.

For her part, already in Los Angeles, Milei continued to report through her X account the most recent data from some media outlets and private organizations that show a strong inflationary slowdown that would continue to be seen in the April analysis, which would end up with a single digit index.

In this sense, the President shared a graph from the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME) that indicates that retail sales, in the seasonally adjusted monthly comparison, rose by 1.6 percent.

Furthermore, through this same social network, he once again defended his economic plan and pointed out against those who insist on the idea that there is an exchange rate delay: "If Argentina has an overwhelming formal fiscal pressure, poor infrastructure and not very open markets that make competition difficult, , which makes us expensive in dollars, does it seem fair to ask for devaluation to liquefy salaries in dollars and thus increase poverty? Wouldn't it be better to go for structural reforms that allow us to be competitive without punishing real wages? Is it not enough for them with almost 90 years of an invalid prescription? “He asked.

The President's message against those who argue that there is an exchange delay
According to what sources close to the president specified, the Government maintains that “the recovery of the economy has already begun to happen,” although they emphasize that “it is a slow process” and recognize that at the moment we cannot speak of a recomposition. of salaries, although they assure that the process “is underway . ”

In this sense, the national authorities highlight that the path to improving purchasing power “has already begun” and as an example they point to what happened in March, a month in which inflation was just over 11%, while the salaries recorded in March they increased 13.1 percent .

In this framework, after the long road that the project took and which led to a text that had sufficient consensus to be approved in the Chamber of Deputies, the Government now faces the negotiations for the Bases Law in the Senate, where the context It is more adverse for the ruling party.

As specified in this medium, the reforms promoted by the Executive Branch will begin to be discussed in the corresponding commissions next Tuesday and the objective is that by Thursday there will be an opinion, the same date for which the strike and the mobilization of the CGT .
