The Expat Survival Curve: Why People Leave Buenos Aires at 6 Months, 2 Years, and 5 Years

Love this about the internet cutting out every storm! So true! Getting packages are the worst and red tape for government stuff. You nailed it!
I am a Porteño but so many of my expat friends complain about these things and get tired and leave.

Spot on target. Many people fall in love with Buenos Aires but the shine can wear off. I love the city just as much as when I first arrived at the end of 2001 but many things can be very annoying. People always ask me when I got used to the inefficiency and I tell them even after 25 years some things are still very annoying.

And of course, coming and living in Buenos Aires retired is much different than running a business here. I've always ran corporations here and it can be very frustrating.

As much as I loved it, I never would have raised kids there and glad I moved out to raise my kids in the USA. Thanks for sharing Jerry.

Agree on the headaches. The best thing is not to try to compare it to your home country all the time. Argentina is Argentina. You can drive yourself crazy comparing to how things are back home.

I recently got my residency in Mexico with @earlyretirement's help. I can't tell you how difficult it was just opening up my bank account. I'm a banking executive in the USA and I was surprised with how painful it was in Mexico. I had to go back and forth to Mexico 3 times. First they made a mistake on a form and then I had to come back twice.

I can see how difficult it would be on other things. Not very efficient there in Latin America. Argentina is probably worse.
