Safest Small Towns in Argentina for Expats

What are some of the safest and most comfortable small towns or cities in the interior of Argentina for expats to live in?


I’m not talking about Buenos Aires or Córdoba City, but smaller, quieter places , maybe somewhere with a good sense of community, decent infrastructure, and not too much crime. Bonus points if it has a nice climate, and isn’t too hard to reach from a major city or airport.

If you already live in one of these towns, or have visited and liked it, please share your experience, what you love about it, what to watch out for, and whether you’d recommend it to other expats.

I’ve been living in San Martín de los Andes for almost two years, and it’s been amazing. Super safe, friendly locals, and you actually get to know your neighbors. Winters can be cold, but the views and lifestyle totally make up for it. Internet is reliable too, which was a pleasant surprise.

San Martin de los Andes is beautiful. Also there are many smaller towns like Villa la Angostura and other towns around that area that are very peaceful. Cost of living might be higher than other towns. Bariloche has an airport but cost of living is expensive there. When I go to the grocery store it's even more than Buenos Aires. But paradise.

I have friends living in Mendoza that also enjoy it.

Great city! Do you get bored there? I liked it for a quiet place but I think it would be too small for me over time. Also cold like you said.

You ain't kidding. I was just in Bariloche and the price of groceries and food was high. I went to McDonald's my last day and a Big Mac was 13,000 pesos compared to 8,500 pesos in Palermo. My friend got an extra value meal and he spent 27,000 pesos! Salaries must be much higher there vs. BA.

Bariloche has always been more expensive than CABA. Salaries ARE higher in Bariloche vs. BA. That has always been the case.
