Restaurant Menus with Prices for Buenos Aires

Well some prices are the same as the USA in some restaurants now here. Ususally this time of year. I just posted this on X today. A burger (very small) and french fries was $23 USD. That is the same or more than what I can get in the USA. Prices have really gone up. What I noticed is a huge slow down in tourism from foreigners. Usually this month is packed but it's mostly locals eating in most restaurants now.
I have been saying since last year prices are the same as Europe or the States! Now people believe me. Look at the cost for a pizza or go to breakfast. A simple breakfast was affordable before and now you will pay the same as the States or Europe or Australia. And prices are still going up.

Went to Anafe Restaurant in Colegiales last night. It's a Michelin Bib Gourmand award winner and very flavorful food. Great service too.

I posted a review here:

I had a nice lunch catch up with BowtiedMara from X. Extremely smart guy that really knows Argentina well. Met up for him for dinner on a previous trip and always enjoy talking about real estate, politics and the economy of Buenos Aires. Always see eye to eye on him.

Had lunch at Malvon in Villa Crespo.

I went to Don Julio today. I'll post a separate review in the Don Julio thread but here are my impressions today. I put photos of all the menus on an X post.

Today I saw this article going around and had to share it here. A couple went out for dinner at Don Julio, one of the most famous (and touristy) restaurants in Buenos Aires, and their bill ended up being over 200,000 pesos. Yup, just for two people.

And no, we’re not talking caviar or vintage champagne, just the usual: steak, apps, dessert, wine. At this price point, it’s not about a local dining experience anymore, it’s a straight-up luxury. Look, I love good food and I get that Don Julio is known for top-notch meat and service, but honestly, this feels like they’re milking the tourist hype hard. You can still get a killer asado in BA, with great quality and service, for a fraction of that price.
What do you all think?

– Has anyone been recently?
– Any solid steakhouse recs that don’t cost a kidney?
– Is Don Julio still worth it, or is it just overhyped now?

Honestly? I went last year because everyone was hyping it, but I wouldn’t go back. Yeah, the steak was great, but not 100,000-pesos-per-person great. You’re paying for the name and the tourist experience.
If you want amazing meat and local vibes, try El Pobre Luis in Belgrano or Parrilla Peña near Recoleta. Way cheaper, and just as tasty.

Still good food, sure. But the value? Not there anymore. I remember going in 2022 and it felt pricey but worth it. Now it’s just inflated, especially for tourists.
If you want the “Buenos Aires steak experience” without the Don Julio bill shock, try La Cabrera (go for the early bird promo) or Corte Comedor in Chacarita, amazing meat and more local crowd.

Prices are ridiculous for what you get. This bar food in Palermo.

A milanesa with mashed potatoes, coffee, Orange Fanta and brownie with a side of guacamole and chips was 71,000 pesos. Just one person. Barely any beef. Most of it breading.

Guacamole with chips 19,500 pesos! Damn that looks like 1 avocado for $14 USD! That literally there is more expensive than I would pay here in Nashville. That's over $50 bucks for just one person at what looks like a dive bar food. I can get a meal like this much less in the USA vs. that.

That is what I noticed. It doesn't make sense to eat a mediocre bar food type place because they have inflated the prices so much that I don't see too much difference between a more quality place or a dive. That receipt is a good example of it. Seeing all of these receipts over the years is healthy to see just how out of whack things are.

Totally 100% agree. I'd rather pay a bit more and get a quality meal. Honestly, it's like that with many places. My last trip my wife and I would go check the menu at many places while walking and we would see that we could go to a nice restaurant and the prices would be about the same vs. this type of bistro or bar places. Even meh bar prices had really high prices.

I live in San Diego which is very expensive and honestly at several places we just felt like we were in California with the prices. Just about everything is more expensive in San Diego. Especially things like rent and labor which are many multiples more expensive vs. BA but the prices often times were more in Buenos Aires.

Someone just recommended this on X. Reviews look great on Google. Looks great for $45 USD for all of that.
