Expat Life: Local Discoveries, Global Connections

Real estate sales are heating up: price increases of up to 20% are expected before the end of the year

There are a lot of different type of people on this board. Seems like both sides exaggerate a little. Those expats and locals that are frustrated with inflation tend to exaggerate and say prices are up 8X and then you have other expats that moved here like @StatusNomadicus that claim no inflation in USD which is also laughable.

The truth is that the truth is somewhere in the middle. Prices have gone up but inflation is slowing down on most things.
I would believe someone more that said prices jumped up 8X on things vs someone that says there is NO inflation in dollars. That is laughable! Maybe if you dug a hole and just living in a hole and don't spend anything, don't have kids, not going out much or avoiding restaurants but even the store prices have gone up. I don't know what accounts for the two different accounts. Go on X and you'll see people all complaining about how expensive it is. Across both locals and foreigners so I'm puzzled when I hear someone try to say no inflation at all. 🤔 Not sure what the motivation is for saying something like that.

Everything has skyrocketed. Big Mac which I still crave once in a while is 14k pesos which is almost $13 USD. And a really healthy good meal of a side of mashed potatoes and salmon can be 50,000 pesos or around $45 USD. This is NOT affordable. Not sure where @StatusNomadicus is eating out at but my guess is he doesn't go to restaurants. Hell even Rappi and food delivery charges have gone parabolic on prices.

Good incentive to cut out Big Macs out of your diet! Prices are crazy!

If Argentina really did something like that I guess it would finally convince people to move all their money from the mattress. Mike what do you think? Do you really think there is really potentially $400 billion under the mattress from Argentines? Can it be that high??

I don't see why Argentina shouldn't do a great reset. They got $32 billion from the last one and they capped it at $100,000 each. I can only imagine if they did unlimited with promise not to prosecute. If everyone is doing it then no one will fear being prosecuted. The only thing is things would skyrocket and get even more expensive.

If they did that I would assume most people will use it to buy real estate. My sister's husband in LA is an investment banker. He told me if Argentina does this then real estate prices are going to go parabolic. I'm glad I already own an apartment here. My sister just bought one too.
Yes definitely it could be as much as $400 Billion. I'd say between $350 to $400 Billion on the sidelines held by locals both in cash and assets outside of Argentina not declared. Much of it will never come back but there is probably a good $200 Billion out there. We have been advising Milei's office to do a Mega Blanqueo for the past 6 months. They are coming around......
