Rapid collapse of birth rates in Argentina and South America

I saw this today online. Scary how much the birth rates are declining in Argentina and other countries too. They are going to have to keep their borders open to other immigrants otherwise they will have problems. Probably why the USA is letting in so many too.

People would rather have a dog or cat in Argentina instead of a kid. Much cheaper!

Argentina is running out of kids. Birthrate dropped 40% in the past 10 years. By 2030 there will be 2.4 million less kids than in 2022. Not sure how social security programs are going to keep going. I guess all these schools BA has will probably go under too. I guess this explains why tuition prices keep skyrocketing. Less enrollment each year.

No one wants to have kids anymore. Can you blame them? Too expensive. The only downside is I will have to leave all my money to charities. My family is all dead as my brother didn't have kids either. I gotta figure out who to donate my estate to.

I know you are being sarcastic but this is a situation that many are in. My brother build up a massive estate. It is only me and him. Our parents died and neither of us have any kids. So it ends with us. He doesn't need my money but I sure could use his. Fortunately he has been very generous with me over the years. Many Argentinean friends are in the same boat.

If you get totally stuck , you can think of GlasgowJohn Junior's school and college fund.
Yes if you run out of charities please feel free to donate to Ben's asado fund. I always was jealous of people that had wealthy parents. Life is a struggle. Then people that do have $$$$ have no one to pass it down to. Lucky!

Hear about this more and more in this new era of no one wanting kids. Some of my friends are in the same situation. One of my friends from Boston has a trust fund and he is getting money and living off of that. Unfortunately my folks were just middle class.

This is a global issue. Look all over the world and there are more and more declining birth rates. Although this Generation seemed cooked. They aren't motivated or have much desire to work much. I guess robots are going to take over anyway someday but there is going to be a big spread between the have and have nots.

These days those that have kids it is costing all their money to raise them. My kids will be college age next year and the year after. And they want to go to American universities. It is outrageous what tuition and fees are today in the US. Some of these schools want upwards of six figures per year for school. $400,000+ USD to get a Bachelor's. Talk about inflation!

It has gotten ridiculous. But if your kids are smart and you are middle class many of these schools have endowments that are very large. Our friend's kid got into Harvard this year and if you make less than $200,000 they will pay for free tuition. I believe if you make less than $100,000 they pay for everything including room and board. Today you either have to be very rich or poor to go to college. Or have saved up in a 529 plan and done well in the stock market.

I don't see any other way. @Wally will you limit your kids on tuition? Or make them finance any of it? My friend's kid has the chance to go to Harvard free but they want to go to UCLA which they would have to pay for.

Agree this generation is doomed. I don't see the motivation, desire or drive to work or have kids. It is sad.

Even terrible or mediocre universities are expensive in America. The price tag is outlandish. That is medical school pricing for undergrad degree.

Hey @Wally,

I feel your pain brother. My daughter got into Boston University and is going to the Business School this fall and it's going to be super painful. Six figures + per year. Ouch. I agree with you the cost of tuition in the USA has gotten insane but what can you do? For us it was good news, bad news that she got in. UCLA and UC Berkley which she also had on her list would have been MUCH cheaper. Oh well. We were proud of her for getting into her #1 choice.

Congratulations to your daughter! Very tough to get into that program. My sister went to the Questrom School of Biz. She got a high paying job at Bain. All of her friends all got solid jobs out of school. That is a stiff tuition bill. You should be proud.

Congrats Mike. Excellent school. You must be so proud of her. Better paying more and going to a top tier school vs a lot for a mediocre school. It will be tough for many to get jobs coming out. What is she studying? Good to see you back. Are you coming down to Buenos Aires any time soon? I have a shopping list. 🤣 Just kidding. (sort of).

I always am amazed at the amount of inflation in a college education now. We have family are sub par colleges and with out of state tuition paying about $70k a year. Worst thing is no guarantee they will get a good job when they are done.

Congrats Mike! I always say when kids get into great schools it's a reflection of their parents. Well done. Looking forward to seeing you next month in LA.

I don't know how parents save enough these days. My sister just sent me this. Her son got into NYU. I was complaining about the price increase of steaks in BA. She sent me this Whatsapp and told me to shut up. Cost she will pay for 4 years for her son. Insane.
