Newcomer Power cuts this summer

Well there is a lot of blackouts in CABA today. I was wondering why the subway and train lines are not running and they said it was the black outs. My power went out in Palermo today.

It was also out in Belgrano today. This is the time of year for black outs. 🙁

One of the downsides of living here dealing with these blackouts. And they are trying to import a ton of electric cars here from China. The grid can't even support the current infrastructure. I'm not sure how that will work out.

Saw this. A container with 5,000 EV's are heading to Argentina from China. Where is the electricity going to come from to power all these cars? Can't imagine people would feel comfortable with rolling black outs.

Exactly , there is no excuse for blackouts at current pricing levels.
This is a big part of why I decided to move out of BA. Prices were jumping up and quality of living were going down. Anyone that has kids has seen a jump up in everything. There is so much corruption and people's pockets getting lined with $$$ that probably no matter how much they increase pricing they probably won't invest it in the infrastructure.

Agree! Prices are on par with typical prices in the United States now. Here is my latest bill. $153 USD for 34 days of usage. About 18 cents per kWh which is the average rate per kWh in the USA.

Didn't I read that the majority of Argentines are making less than $675 dollars a month? This seems like a big expenses for one month of electricity on that kind of salary. I am not even sure you can avoid AC in BA in the summer because of the humidity and heat.

Yes here is the ship with all the electric vehicles.

But we are going to raise electricity prices 350% to 400% in 2 years and going to avoid blackouts. 😛

All kidding aside that was my least favorite thing about the summer in BA.
Blackouts have been a part of life in the summer and sometimes outside of the summer too. Some periods worse than others. In 2013 I remember the blackouts stretched weeks at a time in some areas. Some buildings had no power which meant no elevators and some also didn't have any water. My cousin had no electricity for 5 weeks.

Wow! I had no idea it was that bad. I guess things have improved. I only dealt with hours. I can't imagine weeks! @Vero when the power goes down that long what do people do? How do they live? With no water it would be impossible to live. How would one shower or bathe? No refrigerator. It sounds like people would not be able to function. Is there any restitution at all? Or are people SOL?

The infrastructure has improved but I do not know what will happen if people start using electric cars. The grid can't even support current usage especially in the summer.

Uncle Wong there is nothing that can be done when you have a long black out. Even last year you had some buildings in Retiro without electricity for days. No generators in some old buildings. My aunt got a mandatory settlement from Edesur which is the power company. No direct money but she had no electricity bill for several years.

It is difficult to live. Many have to stay with family or friends. My aunt took a shower at her gym. Not a fun experience.

This is what I can't understand. Nothing works well here as it is. Grid is strained. These EV's use a lot of electricity. I don't know how it will work because there is no real infrastructure in Argentina for charging, repair shops, parts for these cars. Will be interesting to see if Argentines buy them. People would probably steal the copper in the chargers.
