Living with capybaras? Welcome to Zona Norte

Hey everyone!

I live in Pilar, and lately I’ve been seeing more and more capybaras around, especially in the greener neighborhoods and gated communities. Apparently, it's not just Nordelta anymore! These guys are everywhere, casually roaming gardens and walking across the street like they pay HOA fees 😂

Some neighbors think they’re adorable, others are worried about the damage they cause, eating plants, digging, or even taking a dip in backyard pools.

If you're in Pilar or nearby, have you seen them too?
Are they a fun addition to the neighborhood or starting to become a problem?

I’ve seen videos of people actually adopting them as pets, they’re super cute, but I do think there’s a bit of an invasion going on. I read somewhere that authorities are planning some kind of control measures. It’s definitely becoming more common to see them in places you wouldn’t expect!

I think they're awesome and just so chill, but that might be more the novelty factor. If they start causing too much damage I could see them becoming a nuisance.

Let’s not forget that humans invaded their habitat, not the other way around. That whole area used to be wetlands… now developers are building gated communities on what was once their natural territory, and then blame them for “invading.” Totally unfair!

Yes! I live in a gated community in Pilar too, and we’ve had a few “regular visitors” over the past months. Honestly, I love them, they’re super chill and cute, especially when they hang out in groups.
We did have to replant some flowers they ate, but it’s a small price to pay for such cool neighbors 😂

They’re part of the ecosystem, and we’ve taken up so much of their natural space. I say let’s try to coexist. Maybe avoid planting things they love to munch on, or fence off sensitive areas. They’re not aggressive, just a bit curious.
