Jazz in Buenos Aires

NYC Pianist

Hi everyone!

My name is Russell and I am a jazz/gospel pianist from NYC. I am living in BsAs now for about a year. I fell in love with an Argentinean woman and we decided to make it happen here instead of in the US. I am constantly performing at all the clubs and venues here in BsAs, playing jazz, gospel, RnB, soul, Reggae, and more. If anyone would like to come to a show, DM me or email me at russkranes@gmail.com. You can almost always buy tickets at the door or online of the venue. I post most of the shows on my instagram, too- @russkranes

Un gusto conocerlos a todos! Nos vemos por la ciudad 🙂

There are a bunch of great ones. Tonight I play at a club in Palermo called Bebop at 10:30 pm with a fantastic group. There is also Thelonious, Virasoro, Prez, Borges 1975, the Lift, as well as the cultural centers- CC Borges, CC Recoleta, CC Thames.
I like Viarasoro and Borges 1975. Didn't know about some of the other ones. Maybe I will stop by tonight to check out. Good luck.

Cool! I went to Thelonious Club on my last visit to BA. Really great acoustics in there and a great vibe. I also liked Jazz Voyeur in Recoleta. It was inside the Melia hotel. A girl that I was seeing liked Jazz and it was a great atmosphere. Virasoro Bar was cool too.

How is Prez Jeazz and Music Club @NYC Pianist? I didn't get a chance to go there. I heard it has a feel of a real NYC jazz club. It sounds like you would be the best one to judge that claim being from NYC. The girl that I was seeing tried to get me to go to Winston Club one night but I was too hung over.

She also mentioned Winston Club but I never went.

@NYC Pianist maybe contact this other expat about putting some of your shows on his website.

Prez is fantastic. Winston I never heard of. Thelonious is the best club in my opinion in the city.

Love jazz music but didn't know there was much of a scene in BA. How does the BA scene compare to NYC @NYC Pianist ?
The scene in BsAs is much smaller. There are less clubs, less musicians, less people trying to go and see live jazz. But I really adore it here. After living and working my entire career in the most competitive and ferocious scene in NYC, it's been refreshing to be immersed in a scene that's smaller but still very vibrant. There are also some fantastic musicians here and good live music most nights of the week but mainly Wednesday-Sunday.

Thelonious is amazing. I don't think BA can compare to NYC.

What brought you to BA @NYC Pianist? Probably a partner. It's always a guy or girl that makes people stay in BA and fall in love with it. Who are some other good artists in BA in Jazz?

Thanks for mentioning Bebop. Any other recommendations @NYC Pianist for any jazz Fushion. Guitar, drum, bass influenced by the likes of Tony Williams or Billy Cobham?

There are some bands like that but they don't play too often and always in different spots.

Eat Local. Go see LaGrande at Santos Dumont 4040 on Tuesday nights. Orquestra Tipico Fernando Fierro, at CAFF is also good. And look for gigs by Fernando Kabusacki and see who is playing at Artlab Pro or Planta Inclan or Rosetti.

Almost all venues are on instagram and no where else.
