Is Don Julio still worth it, or just paying for the name?

So this popped up everywhere: a foreigner went to Don Julio, ordered starters, wine, ojo de bife, bife de chorizo and fries for four people… and the bill was ARS 316,500. 😳

Honestly, that sounds like a lot. I’ve been there once, it’s a good restaurant, no doubt, but nothing out of this world. It kind of feels like they’re charging a premium for the name and reputation at this point.

Do you think it’s actually worth it these days? For those of you who still go to Don Julio, do you feel like you’re getting your money’s worth, or has it become more of a special-occasion thing (or not worth it anymore)?

Curious to hear your experiences.

I think when they were ranked among the top 10 restaurants in the world in 2024, it really boosted their reputation, and probably their prices too. But I definitely think there are other places that offer the same experience for a better price.

Honestly, it’s just turned into a photo op for tourists at this point. The quality definitely took a hit a while ago because they’re prioritizing volume over everything else. For that price, you’d expect the best steak of your life, but the truth is it’s just 'good' meat, nothing you can’t find anywhere else for way less.
If you want that high-end, "wow" factor without the Don Julio price tag or the massive crowds, La Carnicería is a fan favorite for a reason. It’s small, intimate, and has a much more "cool/modern" feel than a traditional parrilla, they specialize in grass-fed beef and use wood-fire techniques that give the meat an incredible flavor. Their Parrilla and Ahumado (smoked) cuts are legendary.

Club La Nación gives 20% off the bill at Don Julio. As well as online access to Gossip Magazines. Treat somebody to dinner while talking about La China Suarez. 10 out of 10 recommend.

Yes this is a sign of the times when Don Julio has coupons. They have had it starting last year. Osaka also has some La Nacion discount.

great salad, french fries and bottle or wine for 2 80 dollars. he explained that his beef tastes better sith marbling be cause he slaughers his( home grown) at 28 to 31 months instead of the standard 16 months. it kinda depends on the wine. it can get pricey. the cabs are under priced

Unfortunately me and DH had to stop going there. It got too expensive. Wine is overpriced there too. Even on special occasions we can't go there any more.
