Helados Italia - Best ice cream bars in Buenos Aires

Probably one of my all time favorite desserts in Buenos Aires is at a place called Helados Italia. They have several locations so you can look on Google Maps to see where the nearest location to you is. But I usually hit the Palermo Soho location as I'm routinely in this area.

They have these frozen ice cream popsicles that are amazing! They are wrapped in chocolate and have a ton of flavors. They also have frozen bananas that are wrapped in chocolate as well. I'm not sure how the actual ice cream is as I always go for the frozen Cannolis which I think is the best thing they have. Prices range from 3,000 to 4,000 pesos for the Cannolis.

This also my favorite ice cream treat but it getting very expensive now. Mine I like is the Bianco Dulce de leche cannoli. It very delicious but it cost 4,000 pesos now. It too much. 🙁

Wow that crazy $4 USD for little piece of ice cream. No way. This when came out was only $1 USD not so long ago. This ice cream very old from when I was younger. It from Mar del Plata. It so crazy to think it so expensive now.

Thank you so much @earlyretirement for this review. I remembered this post and I looked for it while we were in Palermo Soho. My kids loved it. We stopped by every time we were in Palermo. The locals definitely have a sweet tooth.

Yes, you read my other post. I just looked on Rappi and it is 16,000 for 1 kg and 9,500 pesos for 1/2 kg. My favorite frozen cannolis look like they are 4,500 pesos each now.

Highway robbery on the ice cream. But I admit those cannolis are amazing but expensive for what you get.

Here you can see a photo of the menu that I posted last January. The same Marroc canoli that was 4,000 pesos last year is 6,500 pesos now or 62.5% more.

There is probably a limit to how high they can price on these. This is just a small thing ice cream bar. At 6,500 pesos (about $5.50 USD) this is about the same price as you would find in the USA for something similar. Maybe more than in some cities.

I am always amazed at how much they are able to charge for these ice cream bars! The prices just keep going up but probably that super touristy location of Soho doesn't hurt it. There is always a line. Was it busy?

Yes it is very touristy in this location so that probably helps with pricing but honestly I see a lot of locals always buying bars here. It wasn't too busy today but lots of locals are out of town during January. But far fewer tourists right now. Every place I am going out to eat it's mostly locals judging from listening to people talk.

I would have to believe that prices can't go much higher than current prices. For example, all the clothing stores in Soho are totally dead. I can't see tourists paying these prices for clothes. Watched some Tik Tok videos where tourists are making fun of the high prices here. I was talking to an Uber driver that also sells some stuff on the sides and he was laughing how stores are still trying to sell stuff so high. He said he can order stuff from China now and pay $10 for shipping and only pays the 21% IVA tax. Stores will have to mark down prices now that people can order things direct. He just said it takes about 15 days to get stuff from China.

That is nuts how expensive these ice cream bars are! I guess they're lucky they can freeze them. Prices need to come down. The last few times I have walked by this place it is not as busy as usual. There has to be a breaking point on these but so far it looks like prices still moving up. Thanks for posting photos of the menu. That is the true test of inflation having a history of it.

Came here today. You can see what the inflation is like. I paid 11,000 pesos for one. Surprised how dead Soho is. Hardly any tourists. Hard to believe they can get these kind of prices for a small ice cream. Almost $8 dollars.

Wow! 11k pesos for an ice cream is expensive. They are not too big either. Surprised to see them that expensive now.
