Has anyone been able to do a Union Convivencial in Provincia (outside of CABA) using just a passport?

So here’s the situation: my girlfriend and I had an appointment not too long ago, but when we showed up they turned us away because I don’t have a DNI.
We later spoke to a lawyer who said that’s actually not a requirement, and they likely just made a mistake. He told us to try at a different office and it should be fine, as long as we meet the usual requirements (we’ve been living together for over 2 years, etc.).

I confirmed that in CABA you can do it with a passport, but since we live in Provincia, we need to do it here.
Has anyone successfully done it in Provincia? Would really appreciate any tips or office recommendations where they’re used to dealing with foreigners. Thanks!

I have a friend who did it a few years ago in Martínez with just a passport, no problem at all.

I did it back in 2021 in the Buenos Aires province. My girlfriend is Argentine and I only had my passport, no birth certificate or anything like that. Just the passport, two witnesses, and a form they give you to sign when you book the appointment. It was actually pretty simple, even though I was a bit nervous at the time.
After that, you can start the process to get your DNI, which takes a while, but you eventually get a permanent one.
Also, by law, if the relationship ends, there's no need to go through an annulment or anything like that. It’s clearly stated, it doesn’t change your marital status. Hope this helps!

Totally hear you. It’s kind of hit-or-miss depending on the office in Provincia. The civil registry offices in CABA are more used to dealing with foreigners, but once you go outside the city, some staff don’t really know the rules. According to the law, a passport is fine, as long as you can prove cohabitation. A good trick is to bring a printed copy of the regulations or a lawyer’s letter to back you up if they push back again.
