El Mercado at Faena Hotel in Puerto Madero Dead - No tourists and all locals. Usually when you come here on a Friday night there are a lot of foreign tourists here eating or at the hotel. Last night I did not see one foreigner listening to them talking. All locals. Tourism is very slow now.

Yesterday I ate so much beef. I thought I had to tap out on beef but El Mercado at the Faena Hotel does a great Bife de Chorizo and has great mollejas.

I was really tired from running non-stop since I landed a few days ago but my Whatsapp always blows up with friends that want to meet up while I am in town. There are never enough hours/days to see all of them.

(So I apologize to those of you that wanted to meet up this trip and just impossible).

I met with another architect friend of mine. Many know that I had the 20 year dream to build my own 5-star boutique apartment hotel. I have been looking for the perfect spot of land and may have found it.

So hopefully working on that project over the next year. I wanted to get some design inspiration as I still remember the first time I walked into the Faena Hotel and feeling the hip and cool feeling.
I ate at their restaurant, El Mercado last night with my friend. We weren't too hungry but we grabbed a half a bottle of wine, water, lemonade, Mojellas, mixed salad and we shared a delicious Bife de Chorizo.

Man, the wine prices have really gone up in these nice places. Half a bottle of wine was 72,000.

220,500 pesos for dinner ($185 USD) + tip.

You pay 72k pesos for half a bottle of wine??!!

Damn dude! 72,000 pesos for half a bottle of wine! Thiat's over $60 USD for HALF a bottle. And that steak is expensive too. These are American prices. What did you get for the cubierto? Did they even give you anything??? This is expensive!
Yes! I'm glad he didn't order an entire bottle. He asked me if I want some wine and I wasn't in the mood. Working insane schedule and had more meetings this morning. When I saw that price when I was paying I couldn't believe for half a bottle. The cubierto just had a piece of bread. LOL. Nothing special at all. Just one small piece of bread. Yes, some places, especially connected to posh hotels are not cheap.

But I always try to do some due diligence and check out traffic flow of 5 star hotels. So I can kill two birds with one stone. I'll try to go to Ponyline and the Four Seasons tonight.

cubierto charges are terrorism 🙂

earlyretirement like thousands of millionaires that come to Argentina have tons of money and don't mind spending money for luxury dining. but he also knows he can walk 3 minutes and eat for $5 USD per person, just like in many cities where you can choose to pay high prices
True. Everything is relative in life. I did an initial consultation with Mike a few weeks ago and it was awesome! I thought I knew all there was about real estate from reading his site and others but wow what insight. I feel prepared now for my trip at the end of this month. Going to finally meet him in person!

What I like about him is he still seems to know the value of a dollar. @earlyretirement looking forward to meeting in person!

Many tourists that come to BA are coming from expensive places so even if BA prices have gone up, they might be spending the same as back home. My friends from Spain commented BA is more expensive than Spain restaurants. Probably true at the higher end. I am noticing that there aren't as many young tourists and I see in my daily walks older tourists. I went into the Four Seasons to meet my friend for drinks and the hotel looked full with business travelers.

So the dynamic and make up of the BA traveler is probably changing.

My sister talked to Mike and she raved about him and his contacts he gave her. She is furnishing a property and he provided some great contacts for her. I hope to meet him one day.

you'd hate it here; please stay in BsAs.

my trip at the end of this month
oh cool, welcome back soon!! you're doing it right; @earlyretirement is the only person i'd trust in Buenos Aires. hope you have fun! if you do a wine tour in Mendoza and want to grab some food, i'll show you a Lomito that might just rival the $38 one he eats at La Rambla 🙂 (and for cheaper of course)

Thanks @StatusNomadicus for always speaking so highly of me. We really do work hard for our clients. Wow, which place in Mendoza has a sandwich like that? La Rambla is one of my favorites! Been going there for so many years. Crazy what they are charging but it is really huge. I can't wait to have another one and take @Johnny there in a few weeks. I didn't have time to bring him here last time but will this time.

I hate hate that cubierto fee too @StatusNomadicus. In BA they go crazy with that. I went to some places and it was almost like $7 USD each in various cubiertos. And nothing was really provided except stale bread!

I agree with you about @earlyretirement. I did a consultation with him and EVERYONE he recommended to me are all professionals. Some others no one would even get back to me via email from their website. He gave me the WhatsApp of several people and they answered ASAP. The immigration attorney he recommended has been a rock star. I'm not sure if I will buy a place as it would involve me having to sell some bitcoin to do it but I will pull the trigger to diversify a little.
