Train travel is increasingly gaining more popularity among travelers in Argentina ; especially those in love with the experience of getting on a wagon and traveling through wonderful landscapes and little-explored corners through the tracks.

The train travels between Mercedes and Tomás Jofré, with stops in other very picturesque towns . This tourist railway tour was possible thanks to the joint work between Trenes Argentinos Capital Humano, Ferrocarriles Argentinos Sociedad del Estado (FASE), and Trenes Argentinos Operaciones.

The Jofré and Altamira stations were renovated through construction and reconditioning of buildings, facilities, paths and accesses, rescuing the cultural and historical value of these spaces. In the case of Tomás Jofré, a new station building was built, which includes; ticket office, warehouse, toilets for people with disabilities, a new platform and accesses that guarantee the circulation of all passengers.

The tour begins at La Trocha station, in Mercedes at 10:30; It makes a stop in Altamira at 11:07, and arrives at Tomás Jofré at 11:21. At 11:35 it begins its return, passing through Altamira at 11:51 and arriving in Mercedes at 12:08, leaving again for Jofré at 13, making its stop in Altamira at 13:37 and finally arriving at Tomás Jofré at 1:51 p.m. The final return begins at 3:30 p.m., with a stop in Altamira at 3:46 p.m., and arrival in Mercedes at 4 p.m.

The departures are on Sundays, and the schedules have been designed so that tourists have time necessary for those who want to enjoy the walk and take advantage of their stay in Tomás Jofré for a gastronomic foray.

While in the city of Mercedes one can find attractive options to complement the train day; among which there are typical rooms and picturesque still lifes, local gastronomy is one of its star products. It is also an opportunity to discover postcards of the old facades of Buenos Aires architecture, among which the general stores that preserve their structures and interiors stand out for the curious who want to soak up history.

Another of the towns that you can visit is Altamira, where silence and tranquility reign in every corner. For those who want
to get off at this stop and spend a few days there, they have cabins, there are also places run by locals where typical dishes with native products are offered.

Information:
The train operates only on Sundays and has two departures: 10:30 am and 1:30 pm.

It departs from the train station in the city of Mercedes.

It is on a first come, first served basis and the ticket is paid directly when boarding the train with the SUBE.

La Pulperia de Cacho Di Catarina is a classic in the city of Mercedes. There you can try typical food such as asado, empanadas etc. This restaurant has a very good reputation, It's the last PULPERIA in Buenos Aires
