The latest report from the consulting firm Opina Argentina revealed that the image of President Javier Milei grew again . It is a “ slight improvement ,” as the survey warns, despite the political impact represented by the federal march of the universities and the adjustment plan carried out by the libertarian administration.

In May, the approval of the Head of State went from 51 to 53% . Men (57%), young people (60%) and the middle class (60%) are the social segments that show the greatest support. The report, carried out after the approval of the Bases in Deputies Law , reveals that practically all La Libertad Avanza voters in the last elections continue to support the president.

Along these lines, the images of other leaders of the ruling party also grew, such as Vice President Victoria Villarruel (2% up) and the Minister of Economy, Luis “Toto” Caputo (the positive one rose 2% and the negative one fell 4%). Regarding the Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich , she remained at the same level as the previous survey in terms of positive image (5%), but the negative image decreased by 1%.

As for the opposition leaders, the best positioned on the list is the Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof (40% positive, 59% negative) who, in relation to April, dropped one point in the positive and raised one point in the negative.

In another section of the report we consult what attitude the opposition should take in relation to the Government. “The opinion that the opposition should have an attitude of collaboration with the Milei government grows 2% in the last month (reaches 54%),” it is reported. In any case, 44% of those surveyed considered that the Milei program should be blocked.

Opinion was also consulted on the university progress . “An overwhelming majority (84%) evaluates national universities positively. In turn, around 6 out of 10 respondents perceive the march of 23-A favorably and support the demand for more educational budget. Paradoxically, disapproval of national universities is more intense among those under-29 years old (34%) than in the 30-49 age group (18%) and in those +50 years old (13%),” the report states.

“In the fight with the national universities, the Government seems to have made an unforced error. 8 out of 10 respondents perceive universities favorably and 6 out of 10 supported the 23-A march. Even part of the pro-government voters (20% of those who have a good image of Milei) rate the mobilization positively. In any case, the conflict did not damage the public image of the Government ,” the survey emphasized.

“I beat them all”

In an interview with El Observador, the president referred to the massive demonstration last Tuesday. He said that he does not question the claim and confirmed that he will not close the universities.
Milei himself referred last week to the march of university students and workers and argued that it was “a victory for the Government.”

It was in an interview with El Observador where the head of state mentioned the conflict that escalated sharply in recent weeks. “They took up a noble cause, it seems barbaric to me apart from the fact that it was built on a lie to hide the true work and they politicized it. Let's assume that the students believed that, it seems perfect to me that they demonstrate, but be careful because there was the recalcitrant coup-mongering left, the CGT with Pablo Moyano himself, the progressive wing of the UCR with Yacobitti and Lousteau, which is the guilty hand-raiser, La Cámpora, Axel Kicillof, the Renewal Front with Massa,” declared the head of state.

And he remarked: “For me it is an enormous victory for the government because it showed the modus operandi of the politician who took a noble cause, prostituted it to hide a job. I beat them all, people began to understand it that way. The surveys show that we maintained the image or that we increased it.”
