Newcomer Customs tips at Ezeiza?

Hello guys! I'm planning to move to Buenos Aires from South Korea in this December.
And as you might expected, I'll bring 5 or 6 luggages (3 luggage bags, 2 or 3 plastic boxes) including lots of clothes, some books, my iMac and MIDI, DJ controller etc.

I wanted to ask some real experiences or tips for going through customs, or how likely will I have any problems with large luggages.
I'm probably overthinking but I really wanted to clarify something to sooth myself😅

Thanks 🙂

i won’t be much help but others will. you’ll obviously pay the airline for any bags or boxes above you limit. use an overhead carry on and a backpack to reduce the amount. i am assuming everything is used. no new items in boxes. you should not have a problem. are you traveling on a tourist visa and have someplace to stay. they will want the address at customs. ours can tell you if its ok to tell them you are planning to get residency and move there. your bringing alot of stuff for a tourist. good luck

My friends from the USA moved there a few years ago and they had many of the same things. They did not have any problems at customs. My friend Karla had 6 suitcases.

Duty-Free Allowance for Goods (Tourists & Most Travelers)

📍 If you enter

by air or sea

  • Up to USD 500 worth of goods in your checked/personal luggage
  • Plus up to USD 500 for purchases made at the free-shop (duty-free shop in Argentina on arrival)

👉 Total duty-free limit: USD 1,000 per person if arriving by air/sea.

If you exceed this, you must pay 50 % duty on the excess amount.

📍 If you enter

by land or river (terrestrial/fluvial)

  • Up to USD 300 worth of goods in luggage
  • Free-shop on arrival: no duty-free except at Puerto Iguazú (USD 500).

If goods exceed that value, you pay 50 % duty on the excess.

👶 Travelers

Under 16 Years Old

Allowed 50 % of the above allowances.

Example: USD 250 (air/sea) or USD 150 (land/river).

💻

Personal Use Items – Exempt Always

Regardless of dollar value, personal use items like:

  • clothes and personal belongings
  • 1 cell phone
  • 1 laptop/tablet

are generally allowed without duty as personal items.

💰

Cash / Monetary Instruments

You may bring up to USD 10,000 (or equivalent) into Argentina without needing to declare it.
  • If you bring more than USD 10,000, you must declare it at customs.

🧳

Note on Monthly Use

The luggage franchise is monthly and non-cumulative — meaning you can only use the monthly limit once per month, even if you make multiple trips.

🛃

What Happens If You Exceed the Allowance

If your goods’ value exceeds the duty-free limit:

  • You pay a duty equal to 50 % of the amount over the limit.

Example: Goods worth USD 600 coming by air → USD 500 exempt → USD 100 subject → duty = USD 50.
