A lot like the USA you have to take these inflation figures with a grain of salt. The US removes many things out of their index. Same as Argentina. These numbers in Argentina have mostly always been fudged ever since I lived here. Food prices at the store have slowed down on many things. We won't know the true nature of things until next year.

If crime numbers shoot up because people are robbing others just to get by it won't be good. As a father with kids, that was my biggest fear here if the recession got too bad.

I heard those raids were just for show and the same thing. The ones that didn't pay some blackmail. I still don't know the fake ones from the official ones? The cueva I went in Palermo Soho near my Airbnb had an official sign. But I don't know if that mattered. I went to one in Recoleta and it operated the same way without any signs and I snuck into a back room. I guess this President doesn't care at all vs. before.

I saw some posts online about shootings in Chacarita and another expat said they are setting motorcycles on fire there in that neighborhood. Are these one off experiences? I didn't see anything like that when I was there.

This is not common. I saw a post on X that talked about that fire to the motorcycle and apparently electrical line caught on fire. Also heard about that shooting in Chacarita. Things like that are not common and I hope don't become normal.

if Milei/Bullrich start making sure crime is punished (opposite of USA and UK), there won't be higher crime. just depends on what the people want enforced. criminals will commit crimes that they think they can get away with, or aren't scared of the consequences very much

Try going on the restaurants on Apps like McDonald's, Wendy's and I noticed the same thing. Prices have gone done in the USA the past few months. Did not see that last year or beginning of this year but with elections coming maybe they were nudged to lower prices.

What I noticed is the fast food places offer more details in their Apps. I don't eat fast food but my kids do and there are more details now. Saw this post about individual Big Mac's being more in BA vs. USA. But the meals are still less than BA.

I like threads like this where you can see historical prices of the same items over time. I documented earlier in the thread price of the same sandwich from 2023 to this year. You can see there was huge inflation from 2023 to 2024 but now you can see the inflation has finally slowed down.

At Chori you can see the Cerdo Classico is 9,700 pesos and a potato salad is 6,400 pesos. On September 26, 2024 @Tommy said he paid 9,400 pesos for the same sandwich and 6,400 pesos for the potato salad so while it has gone up a little on the Cerdo Classico from 9,400 pesos to 9,700 the potato salad is the same.

There is a limit to what people will pay for any given item. This is especially true in the food and beverage sector. Price too high and you get no business. Chori is a very popular place with locals and especially tourists. They have found their price point of what too much to charge is. Price beyond that and you go out of business.

I love Chori! Great Choripan. Very good to see the prices aren't moving up much. The last time I went it was much slower. I don't think you can raise prices more than that. A few hot dog places went out of business this year. DOGG closed all their locations.

It is good to see that Chori isn't raised their prices much since a few months ago. I would have to believe once you get to a certain level you can't price any higher. This seems to be the case. I came here during my trip and it was always kind of busy. Lots of tourists. I wonder how many locals pay this much for a Choripan. That seems like over 100% of other normal places. I think I only paid about 3,000 pesos for a choripan anywhere else.

Thank you for posting this. I think this is a good gauge to track prices. It is a local restaurant and this place is popular with tourists and also I know many Porteños that like this place. Looks like prices went up 200% in the past year. This matches what I am seeing. I am going to go there today and get a Choripan!

Prices are still holding firm at Chori. I was absolutely tired last night. Rushing to get 2 of my apartments ready and was in meetings all day so just ordered Chori from Rappi. Prices are the same from a few months ago. Still a lot for a Choripan and fries but as I mentioned last year, a limit to what people will pay for food.

I noticed there are way less tourists this time of year. Tourism has really fallen. I talked to one of my old employees that manages many rental units on Airbnb and he said they are at 50% of their usual occupancy rates from previous years. The more expensive prices are being felt.

I agree with you Larry. Prices are out of line with what they should be. I don't believe that salaries are going up higher than inflation. There needs to be some serious deflation in prices.

Looks like a Chori de Cancha is still 8,800 pesos after a few months so that is very positive. And the fries are still 6,400. So 0% inflation for the same meal.

I like the idea of comparing prices of the same restaurants over time. This is a great thread. I eat here every trip to BA. It is good to see the price is the same and also the blue dollar has gone up making it even cheaper in dollars.
