Best steak sandwich in the world - La Rambla (Recoleta)

My all time steak sandwich in the world is at La Rambla in Recoleta. The absolute best steak sandwich in the world. It's HUGE. So tender and delicious. I have had this so many times. Usually in my trips I am all steak'd out as so many friends have asados for me but this trip I didn't have any asados. It's always great catching up with my friend BowTiedMara from X. We always catch up each trip I'm in town and share a meal together.

I love talking all things Argentina, real estate and the economy with him. I used to live up a block on Avenida Alvear and would come to this place weekly. BEST steak sandwich in the world. The price keeps going up on it though. 35,000 pesos each ($30 USD) but can honestly say well worth it. So tender and juicy. It is a MUST visit place for "La Rambla" steak sandwich.

Wow! How have I never heard of this??? That looks delicious! It is so cool you two are friends. You both are my favorite posters on X for Buenos Aires. You both have the best and most informative content.

That looks good but $30 bucks for a steak sandwich sounds like a lot. But I will try it next month.

That is too expensive! $30 sandwich?!

And the prices keep going up. Just went a few weeks ago and spent $85 bucks for a sandwich, fries, juice and two drinks before tip.

Seems to just be normal inflation. I wonder at what point people will just stop going out to eat? @Finance Prof was it busy there at La Rambla? I haven't been there in a while. It always is usually busy. The sandwiches are good but not sure they are that good. That is expensive by local standards.

Wow. I always think there is a limit to how much people will pay for that sandwich there but it is always busy. That isn't far from my apartment and every time I walk by it is always packed with people eating. Because it is so close to the Park Hyatt, Four Seasons and Alvear Palace there are a lot of tourists here wanting to get that famous steak sandwich.

You know any joint that has the prices in USD or Euros in Buenos Aires has a lot of tourists and it's not going to be cheap.

Am I miscalculating somehow? 91500 divided by the Blue Dollar rate of 1500 is closer to $60. That steak sandwich at 43000 is still less than $30 at today's exchange rate
The blue rate today was about 1485 to $1. Looks like this photo was a few weeks ago. The rate has jumped up. Last month it was lower. You can see directly on the receipt Craig the exchange rate. It says at the time $83.18 USD. On the flip side, the prices could have gone up in the past month also as restaurants seem to keep increasing prices especially as exchange rate goes up.

Yes at today's exchange rate about $29 but if you use a foreign credit card the exchange rate is less too. I am not sure what exchange rate they are using but prices here change all the time. I saw another post with ice cream prices and they jumped up significantly in a short amount of time.

$30 for a steak sandwich is expensive here in BA but that places has a lot of tourists. When I have gone everyone around me was speaking English or Portuguese.

I hear you, but the rate was about 1485 the day of that receipt as well. $83.18 suggests an exchange rate of 1100, must be taking advantage of unsuspecting tourists paying in USD or EUR. No credit card company would give you a rate that bad.

Good catch! Wow I'm not even sure that is legal to do like that. I thought they had to use the official rate. Talk about textbook tourist trap. Most tourists don't know enough about all the different exchange rates. Still surprising to see they are cheating tourists so much on the exchange rate.

Wow that is exactly what they are doing. It is funny to see how much things have turned. Before restaurants would give you a very favorable exchange rate to use dollars. The location of this place by all the hotels is taking advantage of the fact that many probably don't have pesos because the ATM machines only let you withdraw a small amount and charge a hefty fee on foreign debit cards. People probably aren't as wise as Craig and doing the exchange rate.

Many tourists are leery of using their credit cards here. I never heard about restaurants overcharging guests much before but in the past year I have read and heard from many that were over charged at restaurants.

Yes I posted about this a few months ago.

I had a few friends the same thing happened. I am not sure if it was because they were obviously foreigners but I read a lot of cases where this happened in Buenos Aires. I also will come across some Google Reviews for BA restaurants where this is happening. Always check your bills to make sure it matches what they are charging.

Good catch! They probably have been pulling that terrible exchange rate scam for decades. Touristy spot. Always foreigners there eating and drinking.

I didn't know this was so common in BA. It did not used to be. That is a popular poster on X so I don't doubt his post and experience. A shame restaurants do this in this day and age because just one post can ruin your reputation.

Geez, it's not a good thing for Argentina that you have to check receipts and banking apps after every meal. It will deter a lot of would-be visitors. If the government values tourism they will jump all over this.

Totally! It is stressful to have to worry that you will get ripped off. Part of being on vacation is not having to worry about this. I read that couple that got scammed out of $30,000 USD and all the stress they had to go through. Surreal.

Before you wouldn't hear too much about restaurants charging more or scamming in BA but starting to see more of this. My cousin was in BA and caught the same thing. He pointed it out as he saw his banking app. It wasn't 10X the amount but it was about double. When he claimed it they said it was an honest mistake but I don't think so.

Terrible to hear about these things happening now.

The problem is that the country is inefficient and corruption is the norm here. Look a the example that @Uncle Wong posted about. Even with the customer going back and asking them to do the right thing they refused and only did after multiple threats to call the police. That is the mindset here.
