Being Black in Argentina: Experiences and Acceptance

I'm surprised so many people in this X post are so racist in Argentina. Argentines have reputation of being racist but surprised so many openly positive racist comments. Very sad to read.

Terrible. But many here are like that. A shame.

What I have found is that they are more open here vs other countries. It is not a matter of just being politically correct either. I have friends that openly speak like that and although I like them as friends I am embarrassed for their behavior. I saw this on another X post today. And was surprised that another X account that I follow was laughing about the racist jokes. Nothing to laugh about.

Terrible to read these kind of things. My opinion is that Argentina is accepting of people but there seems to be a backlash of people not wanting to have certain foreigners moving here. It is easy for anonymous people online to post hatred but I don't believe that matches reality here. So much hate online.

Like any country Argentina has it's fair share of idiots. Lived in BA for several years and met my fair share of people that spoke poorly of other races. Sometimes Argentines are like that. They also joke around a lot but you can't let it get under your skin. Happy to see the OP is not letting it get him down.

There is also some dark humor here where locals think they are being funny but it is really not funny at all. But it is true and even many Argentines admit that many here are like this. It's part of the reason much of South America resents Argentineans.

my advise is say off social redes. nothing good come from social media and X especially. i have been coming and going for 20 years. never seen a racist behavior towards people of color. if you do decide to come bienvenidos. i exercised with a person of color for 10 years. he seamed to be getging along fine. we were in a gym class together. nice guy. good luck

The gentleman in question was not black. He was Indian. Several posts were racist on that X post towards several of the people from India. Not just anonymous people either. Sad.

Mostly it was anonymous people but it seems like there is some xenophobia from verified users too. It does seem like many don't want Argentina to get full of foreigners from certain countries. But some are very unaware. This was just a conference from people around the world only in BA for a week or two. Some seem paranoid of Argentina getting a blended population.

Very true. No one I know that has white kids is having kids anymore. All my adults friends in the USA are sad their children aren't having kids. Elon Musk mentioned it the other day about Italy. They are getting wiped out.

That lady in the X post is way off. She is saying 25% of Canada are Indians now. That isn't true at all.
