Beijing break-up: Trump wants China out of Argentina. Could Milei afford it?

i would not doubt it. betsy my state turned purple with all the california moving to arizona. arizona used to be blood red. barry goldwater, john mccain. wong its been coming for a long time except now countries know how to trade around a currency.

betsy not sure where the district was. if it is close to austin it makes sense. think the name was turant

That is happening to a lot of areas. I wonder how Texas is doing? Seems like a lot of people from West Coast (CA, Seattle, Portland) are moving to Austin and Dallas. Have those areas shifted to blue/purple?

Economically (not in any particular order):
1. Trump doesn't expect any country to stop trading with China just like he doesn't expect the US to stop trading with China.

2. Trump wants fair trade/trade practices from China and he is using tariffs to enforce it. He expects other countries to not allow China to use them as a way to bypass those tariffs.

3. He wants to protect the USD's status in global trade and reserve currency status. He will also use the threat of tariffs to accomplish that.

Militarily:
1. Trump considers China to be the primary threat.

2. The actions / focus related to Panama Canal, Argentina, Venezuela, Greenland, and Brazil are all related to China. It is to ensure we don't come close to a Cuban missile crisis situation and make sure China cannot project military power at the scale that the US is capable of now. It ensures the US has enough distance between from enemy launch sites to shoot down any missile heading to the continental US states.

3. Russia is probably seen as a future ally against China as opposed to being an enemy. A lot of things make more sense when you consider that as being the ultimate goal.

4. Trump is making every country choose sides now while it still has enough economic influence to ensure they side with the US. If the Democrats had won the White House, and China was allowed to continue as before... without #2 above, it would be a lot more difficult to stop China in another 8 years.

China can make certain countries accept their currency (and they do) but a becoming a reserve currency requires trust. China has none at the moment and I don't think they're trending in that direction either.

The question is really can China really be stopped? I don't think so....

You nailed it on the head. Takes trust but under Trump do other nations trust the USA? It seems like the USA isn't trending in the right direction either but I agree much more than China. It will be damn near impossible to make a new world reserve currency.

Agreed, US is the least bad option. Europe? Big structural problems + stagnant economy. Japan? Most indebted + oldest population. Switzerland? Way too small. China? India? Russia? LatAm? SE Asia? Middle East? No way, they're trying to form trading blocs but to some extent it's a bunch of drunks holding each other up.

I don't think there is any other viable option right now. Europe is a mess. Many of the EU countries have lost the war on illegal immigration. I am not sure how they can turn around. Even legal immigration they have allowed too many in that will be a drain on their countries.

Japan is all aging population and no one is having kids. I can't see anything in Latin America being viable. People always say the USD is going to get toppled but doubt we will see it in our lifetime.

Interesting these red states turning purple.

Maybe not now but China is growing by leaps and bound across many categories. Just saw this about energy and how much more China produces vs. the USA. In the future probably whoever generates the most electricity will be the most powerful.

China now generates a record 10,000 TWh of electricity annually. Meanwhile, the US produces 4,500 TWh, or -55% less than China's output.

Since 2019, Chinese power generation has surged +2,500 TWh, or +33%.

Over the same period, the US has added just +221 TWh, or +6%, while Europe recorded a -110 TWh decline.

In other words, China's electricity generation has grown ~11 TIMES faster than the US over the last 6 years. The energy gap has never been wider.

tigre i wish i could believe it. seen way too much over the last years to make me believe the dollar dominated trade is going to last. i disagree on tarriffs.its a bully tactic. and trumps use is starting to ware thin on alot of countries. two many times he’s put high tariffs on countries and backed down. the game has lost its lust. imho

Trump Always Chickens Out (TACO).

He is making a lot of enemies around the world. He is all talk. And countries know it now. He thinks he has the art of the deal. He is starting to look old.

Power generation is one area where China is kicking the world's collective behind. Half the US's capacity is 25-30 years old and in need of replacing, so we have to grow just to stand still, and getting a new power plant approved is extremely difficult. Whereas China has no trouble damming up a river and displacing a few million people. This is a game they can win and so they are.

They are dominating. In many cities in the USA they have black outs still in the summer. Very dated infrastructure. Closed nuclear plants which was a mistake and getting a new one like you said Craig is too impossible now with regulations. This is a good point that whoever has the energy will dominate in the future.

What is Trumps problem with wind turbines? He criticizes countries who use it but I am not sure he understands how it works.
Trump criticizes a lot. USA is going behind in energy race. Probably why he needs to get Greenland and Venezuela and others. He just made a deal with Argentina for precious resources.

glasgow. he is upset with wind power because scotland places some turbins off shore and he can see them from his golf course. great reason to inhibit a great green energy source. it never ends

Funny but Trump doesn't think it is reliable.

What is Trumps problem with wind turbines? He criticizes countries who use it but I am not sure he understands how it works.
He jokes that it only works when the wind blows and says it's less reliable than oils or fossil fuels. He loves oil (drill baby drill) and natural gas. He hate subsidies for renewables. Says if they were truly efficient they wouldn't need federal tax credits.
